Florida Driver's License

I'm afraid its being 'easy' is just an outright 'misleading statement'. Sorry, but you do have to prove you're a resident. It's 'easy' to say anything you want to say on a discussion board, but the fact is, you have to have proof of being a resident to get a drivers license in Florida, or in any other state for that matter.

While it IS true you MAY be allowed to have ID in more than one state, depending on your circumstances, it ISN'T true you can just get an ID or a drivers license in a second state. Think about it. I'm sure you'll figure out the fact there has to be proof and why that might be so, especially in post 9-11 America.

It is true that you can hold a FL ID card and a DL from another state,

The FL ID card looks and acts the same as a DL but only in the state of FL. This is for people who spend part of the year in FL and part somewhere else. They are usually referred to as "snowbirds".

It is useful for getting FL resident discounts and cashing checks etc.

When applying for a FL ID...you must show a valid driver's license, another form of ID and proof of residency (ex...tax bill, phone bill, voter's registartion etc...)

It is also NOT easy to get. FL used to allow folks to get them in the back of Eckerd's drugstore, which I where I originally got mine. That has changed, You now must get one at the DMV which does take appts (usually weeks to months in advance) as well as walk-ins......which can take the majority of a day.

You must take an eye test, sign a few forms and pay $20.

You also don't have to have an appt at some locations, the Auto Tag places you can just walk in but you have to get there early.

Dang if I had known that I wouldn't of given up my Louisiana license. :confused3

So what Florida address are you planning on using....Mickey's at ToonTown....or Cindy's Castle

Here's a bit more info on licenses. My son legally lives in Ireland now, but only has a license for Ireland (not international), and can't use it here (they have two types of licesnses, and he hasn't had his long enough to get the other). So, I asked if his NY one would still be good, and was told, yes, as long as he has an address to use...and as long as he realizes it's against the law to carry two licenses in the US. Huh, I said? I was told he had to be sure to leave the other license at home (his or ours), and not have both licenses on him, in case he is stopped. She said he could be arrested. Just an interesting tidbit.

PS MY friend in Florida got her FL ID by using her heat bill last month (she lives there 4-5 months). But she didn't go to a DMV place, she went to another place. The line was so long, she asked about leaving and going to a DMV place and they laughed and told her she best bring her lunch and dinner..and then that was being hopeful. She decided an hour wait wasn't so bad after all. She can use if for anything except official state/federal business, like voting. They told her it was good in all the parks LOL!

If you only knew how easy and perfectly legal it is and was.
Exactly how legal can this be? If you don't live in FL then you are lying to get a FL DL. Florida licenses are for people that live here not people that are visiting and trying to save a few dollars. I wonder if the DMV in WDW area are more strict about giving out licenses for this reason.

What comes around goes around.

Disney is probably aware of people getting Florida only drivers licenses and may not accept them as proof of residency. Those licenses probably meant that your primary residence is elsewhere and you aren't a legimate resident of Florida.

in the end, is it worth your time? $100.00 off an AP? some hotel discounts, some different ticket options? sure we get discounts, but is it really worth that much effort?

Off topic but I love that cartoon funny you have. Where did you find that?

The thing is, a FL driver's licnece has your address on it. If you don't have a FL address, you cannot get a FL licence. You have to have a FL address, be it permanent or temporary (as in a snowbird).
