We recently got back from our road trip down to Disney where we hit up 10 different breweries so thought I would share a few of the highlights here as some may be interested
First, in Florida we stopped by 2 breweries:
-
Tequesta Brewery in Tequesta, FL. I hadn't heard of this one before but it was basically on the way and around lunch time so decided to stop. The brewery itself isn't much to look at (in a strip mall) and I only two beers, but they were both rather good: A black IPA and their Ono2 Double IPA with mango and papaya. I liked that for both the flavors in the blends added to each other rather than muting each other
-
Funky Buddha Brewing in Oakland Park, FL. This was a really fun brewery, if a bit corporate feeling. A lot of good stuff on tap - the blueberry cobbler is really good and the Sticky Treats really did taste like Rice Krispy Treats. They had a Gruit they did in conjunction with Short's Brewing called Tip Ta Tip that was really good. Picked up a few bottles of the Sticky Treats and Barrel Aged Chocwork Orange as well
Other highlights:
-
Fullsteam Brewery in Durham, NC. Really nice vibe with lots of people hanging out, playing games, etc. Also right next door to a good BBQ place which is nice. Good sour IPA called 9-Volt and a Basil Farmhouse ale called Southern Basil
-
Terrapin Brewing in Athens, GA. Intersting set up in that in Georgia they have a rule the breweries can't sell beer for consumption on site ... so they sell you a glass which comes with coupons to exchange for free beer. Fun set up with nice outside area. Lots of kids and dogs running around and having fun. I'm not a huge peach fan but their Maggie's Peach Farmhouse Ale was quite good. Wake N Bake coffee stout was quite good - though the weather was too hot to really enjoy
-
Wicked Weed Funkatorium in Asheville, NC. Wicked Weed has two location - 1 where they make regular ("Clean") brews and their funkatorium which is their fully dedicated sour and funky taproom and features ~1,200 barrels and 2 froders. So much excellent stuff here: Bombadille - Brett with Florida strawberries aged in French Oak, Black Angel - Black sour ale aged in bourbon barrels with tart Michigan cherries, etc. Side note, it was point out to me that between me and the barrels is a "hidden Mickey"
Ultimately here is what I came home with:
