For many years I've commented on. ..discussed and some might say defended the fees out of towners experience when dealing with rental cars in Orlando wrt toll roads.

I recently had reason to visit DALLAS and had need of a rental car ........

If ya think Orlando has issues along this line YA HAVE NEVER BEEN DALLAS!!!!!

No cash option ... PERIOD ....

$13 a day extra tacked on to price I'd been quoted .... for tolls.. never mentioned when getting online price ... if there is an option for paying I did not find it (not a LONG search but . . . )

Now that Florida is part of the east coast E-Pass (if you have the correct transponder) the discussion is moot to many . . .

The best option I've been able to find was to get a toll tag from Kansas, those work in the DFW area. But I was there last month and didn't have too much of an issue just avoiding the toll roads. It added maybe 10 minutes to my drive to take 635 from Richardson to DFW than it would have taking the George Bush, and saved me $40 overall.

Ditto on the K-Tag. When my son lived above Austin it became a good decision to get one. As OP stated, the rental car companies would warn of an up to $25 daily hit even if you mistakenly got on a toll road, which was easy to do since some of the roads simply go from free to toll. Texas toll tag was a sticker, but the K-Tag was portable like Sunpass.
