Flooding Castaway

I was just curious

I know Castaway Cay doesn't have that many high points at all. Has the island ever been flooded over?

Not exactly sure about flooding OVER, but on our Feb '01 cruise, the shuttle driver to Serenity Beach area pointed out grassy areas that had been damaged from a recent hurricane.

Nov. of 99 there was a hurricane that messed up the island pretty bad. We were there in Feb of 2000 and the dock was still tore up pretty bad. The castmembers told us that it was due to a hurricane that swamped the island.

Normally, no the island normally stays above water. Tides are not as severe that far south. But yes, in late '99 a hurricane passed very near the island. The storm surge of water completely submerged the island and damaged the dock. In dousing the island in salt water, this killed all the plants. We cruised there in October 99 to drop off supplies, we didn't visit the island that cruise.
