Flooded POTC boats

POTC is my favorite ride, kinda disappointed in this news. We have been to DW numerous times, and have never ridden Kali Rapids cause I hate being wet walking around the parks. Sounds like people are getting wetter than SM. Just reading some of the posts sounds like they need to distribute weight to the stern of the boat. Maybe raising the bow will keep the boat from getting swamped....

Of course, in the DLR attraction, getting swamped is actually very appropriate...

I reported first hand on flooding and the horrors of sitting in the front row during our Sept trip.Christmas day report- nothing has changed and most boats were going out with an empty front row as virtually no one was willing to get seated up front. Our boat had a wet floor but no real standing water in it, so that was an improvement.

Pirates was closed again last night, so apparently still having problems.

Rode PoTC on 12/24. No standing water in any of the boats I saw go by before we loaded, or the one we rode in. My DH and two of my kids were seated in the very front seat of our boat. They were splashed a bit more than we remember in the past, but nothing that came remotely close to what I've seen reported in this thread. Not saying this is not happening to some, but it did not happen to us and I saw no one else who was soaked after getting out of their boat. We were splashed a bit but not even close to drenched, and nothing that required a change of clothes.

I never reported back after our trip. We rode on Tuesday the 15th at around 10:30 am. I was really nervous & didn't want to get soaked. We were in the fastpass lane & as we approached the loading area, I was able to look down as the empty boats approached to be loaded. I looked carefully at the floors & seats. I probably saw about 6-7 boats. One had a damp to wet floor but no standing water. All the others were dry. Of course, we were going to be the first loaded
On our boat & there were only 2 of us. I asked to not be in front row & the CM was very pleasant. We were in the last row, our boat had a young couple in the first row, one row with parents & 2 school aged kids, rest of the rows were all adults. DH & I stayed completely dry. Although I couldn't tell if anyone got wet during the drop, I made sure to look at others as we got out. Everyone seemed dry except that young couple in the first row. They were pretty well splashed, but did not seem drenched. They seemed to be laughing about it as they got out, so I guess they weren't upset. The floor as we got off was wet, but not soaked & the ramp out was dry. I was glad we gambled & rode, but made sure our FP was early in the day. I was also prepared to walk away & not ride if the boat we were to ride had standing water.

Isn't there a sign outside the ride stating you can get wet on POTC? Rode it twice this past week with no issues.

There is now. There never used to be, that's the problem many are having. It didn't used to *need* a sign.

Rode it on 12/22 and no water in the boat and just a little spray sitting in the front row.

We rode it again last night and were seated in the back of the boat. My brother was in the last row on the left hand side and had water come up over the side and get his feet wet during the drop. I noticed that it seemed wetter in the unloading zone than it had during our previous rides.

It seems that they fix whatever it is and it works fine for a few days, then whatever is causing the problem to happen again for a few days, the ride is closed, then it opens back up and it's fine for a few days.

I'm sorry I am late to the conversation, but how did this problem occur? I don't understand how this problem keeps happening now and hasn't in the past years.

When entering the park on 12/15, we walked past the ride and spoke to a couple of cast members outside. I asked about people getting soaked. The one CM said you may get wet but if you sit in the back you should be okay. The other CM was kind of a jerk. He said, if you don't want to get wet, don't ride it.

When we rode with FP around noon and asked for the back row. Right after the drop, the boat jerked very hard to the right. My wife was thrown to the right and hit her arm against the boat. She got a bad bruise around her elbow. The people in the front got soaked. I noticed others outside the ride who were drenched.

They did a refurb, and that refurb involved "fixing" the drop to be more gentle, and lighter boats. That combined with cramming too many people in the boats during busy times has had the unintended side effect of people in the front row getting soaked, and the boats listing to one side or the other...

We rode it on Dec 12. CM was going to put us in front row & I asked if we could sit in another row. She rolled her eyes at me & put us in 2nd to last row. Water still came up over the right side & got DS's feet soaked. Lots of standing water in our boat at the end of the ride.

We avoided this ride during our trip due to this issue. I spoke to 2 different guests who told me they had ridden and ended up thoroughly splashed and very wet feet.

I can personally say that you can indeed get soaked while sitting in the front row. My wife, 17 year old son and myself all got soaked on our first ride in November, and on another ride when we were seated near the back other guests that were up front got pretty wet. We rode the ride about 6-7 times during the week and only two times did water actually soak someone. I personally will not sit in the front anymore.

We rode on Tuesday in the 2nd to last row. Our boat was dry and stayed dry. We did see wet footprints on the ramp out of the ride but didn't see anyone wet. My whole family sat in the row together. Our boat did not lean to the side. It was also a full boat.
