Flooded POTC boats

We rode it a few times last week. Both times it was in the late afternoon/evening. Both times we requested to sit in the back. The CMs were asking anyone who went to the front if they minded getting wet. There was probably a quarter of an inch or less of water in the bottom of the boat, nothing that went past the sole of my shoe. The second boat we were on was listing to the side quite a bit and it sounded frequently like we were scraping the bottom, though I'm not sure if that was possible. It could have just been us bumping up against the guide rails. CM's at the end of the ride were using a reacher to check the bottom of the boats for standing water prior to sending them on.

One thing that I did notice was the mermaid and the Blackbeard/Davy Jones mist stuff was no longer there both times that we rode it.

....Disney is looking less and less like they care about anything but money......

That's ALL they care about. The passion and innovation which Walt (and by extension....Roy) had for his creation is gone (albeit, he [they]was [were] interested in the financial pluses, as well). The shareholders and executives in charge unilaterally care about turning as much profit as possible.

Happens very often in multigenerational enterprises, as they migrate further and further from who initiated the undertaking.

We road this yesterday. My DS13 and DD16 road in the front row. They both got a little wet on their pant legs, we got sprayed a little in the second row, but it wasn't bad at all.

The Blackbeard/Davy Jones mist was working just fine when we road it.

It's fascinating that they are sticking with this plan to load the boats to the max in light of the current issues.
Since FP+ it has been consistently hanging around 45 min standby which is still wishing their "moderate" wait definition. Loading less people would push that SB up over 60 and they don't want more things in the "long" category.

I don't believe it is physically possible for a boat to capsize in PotC. Sink, maybe, capsize...no way.
If the boats can sink they can capsize. If they can list or roll to the side, it isn't much of a stretch to see them capsizing. It takes very little space to capsize a boat. Granted, you are probably only in a foot or two of water, but it isn't out of the realm of possibility given some of the reports.

Interesting, we rode twice on different days last week and neither time was the mist even there at all.

Wow, I totally missed this thread. I wish I saw it before last week. I was there on a trip to celebrate our 30th anniversary, and we were so happy to find POTC open again. We were issued the third row. The people in the first row backed up and took our row before we were able to go where the CM sent us. After much confusion, for the entire boat with people swapping around everywhere and the CM ignoring it, we just took the first row they didn't want and were squirmed in with one other very large man. I had no idea the ride had been changed to get guests so wet. Thank goodness it was a super hot day, unusually so for November in FL, because we were soaked, and of course we had on socks and sneakers, completely saturated. We took a ride on BTMRR and dried off a bit, and then just sat on a bench for a while with our socks and sneakers off. Not very attractive, but we did not want to go back to the WL to change. Then we had a nice lunch in The Plaza, however the AC was blasting and we had to bug out of there fast, we hated to be cold in FL. We have to face an entire NE winter soon, and this was a bummer!

They tried to put my party of 4 adults (none of us small) in the front row. We would not have fitted, and would have been soaked had we done. Two of us got soaked on a previous ride the day before, but we were asked on that occasion.

same here! except we didn't get splashed at all....

This is not true. Those boats could sink in two feet of water but there is NO way you could capsize (which means flip) one of those boats in two feet of water with guide rails on either side. No way...it is not possible.

I know what capsize means. I believe it is possible, though unlikely.

Rode this last week. My husband, 17 month old and I were in the first row, my mom and 5 year old were in the 2nd row. The seat was wet when I sat down and there was water on the floor. My lap and one side of my hair/ face were soaked after the drop. My poor 17 month old got soaked as well. My husband was the last one in our row and just got splashed.

2nd row got a little wet but not much.

Just got back - rode yesterday - row 3 - we noticed no difference at all in splash, but the floor of the boat was wet. No standing water at all, but wet.

They are really cramming people into boats, though. We are a party of 2 and had to sit with another party of 2. Four adults in a single row is tight if anyone in the row is pooh sized. The couple sitting next to use both were. Not their fault, but Disney needs to consider individual size, not just numbers.

It's not stopping anybody from riding as POTC saw a 105 minute wait earlier today. LOL. Maybe it's more popular now that they added the rogue wave feature.

We went four times last week. We did not get wet. We were in row 1, row 2 and row 3 twice. I was expecting to get wet (especially when we were in the front row -- four of us, two adults, 8yo, 7yo) but we didn't get much more than a splash. There was no standing water in the bottom of the boats, a small puddle here and there. The biggest splash was from a cannonball and that wasn't bad at all.

We were going to skip it because of this thread, but decided to give it a try. Two of the times the boat felt crowded, the other two times the seats were not as crammed.

We rode it Saturday in row 3 and did not get wet, there was a water on the seats and floor though.

Just as a side note (not sure if this has been mentioned already) - I noticed one comment that a CM told a guest that "it's a water ride - you will get wet". However, according to the Disney website there is no mention of it being designated a "water ride". POC is described as a "Dark, Slow Ride, Small Drops". It does say you will "swoop down a small rushing waterfall" but that is the only reference.

For perspective, the same website describes Splash Mountain as "Big Drops, Thrill Ride, Water Rides" and warns the visitor that "You will get wet!.....Where you’re seated will determine how wet you’ll likely get."

So if a CM is telling you that you should have known you would get soaked, that's just not true.
