FLL airport - Shooting today at 1 pm - 9 wounded

Yes, I think you're right. However, I don't see the difference between pulling a gun out of a bag and walking into luggage claim with a weapon in a pocket.

There isn't much but it would still deter this exact scenario (if it is what happened anyways) from happening again. People who want to move their guns for sake of hunting trips or whatever can still do that but just have to either ship ammo ahead of time or buy on site. We can't stop every incident from happening but why not stop the ones that make sense? Not to say this is the confirmed scenario at all but it is one I have had more than a passing moments thought on when these discussion come up about unsecured areas.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who don't know what PSA means. Looked it up on google. Google says it's a test for prostate cancer. Google didn't have any other meaning for it that I seen.maybe person will come back and let us know what psa means.

What does this thread have to do with prostate cancer?

Right now, I'm just wondering what business Senator Nelson has giving interviews about this on cable TV, and releasing names to the media, and so forth. :confused3 I'd think that would be law enforcement's job, not his.

Why would he waste a good opportunity to calm the situation?

Sounds like he came from Alaska. You Canadians are off the hook.

So, I sometimes watch "Border Security" (I know, I am very intellectual). Anyway, one of their favourite things to show is Americans crossing from Washington into BC on their way to Alaska with guns that are legal in Washington and Alaska but not BC (or anywhere in Canada). They are not allowed across the border. I have no idea what type of gun this man used or what his actual flight was but if it were Alaska-Canada-FLL, would the gun have to be legal in Canada to be in checked luggage?

Not quoting you because I think you'll know the answer - just because it made me think of the question.

I believe it was a handgun. Are those generally used for hunting (animals)? (Serious question, I have no idea. I imagine they would need a rifle as well, or a bow and arrow or such.)

My knowledge of guns basically comes from "Border Security" :) But, I wouldn't think that handguns would be used for hunting (and I didn't think that they were legal in Canada, without a license at least).

Such a sad, scary situation. I fly into FLL every March to visit friends who live there. My trip is already booked - on Delta. Into Terminal 2. Hopefully lightning doesn't strike twice in the same place?

Really? This attack "makes sense"? I think you're under the impression that "we have to do something!" IMO, you don't take steps to avoid the 1/1000 situation. I don't think it's practical (in this case).

I watch it too lol

I don't think a handgun is for hunting and yes, they are illegal in Canada if you don't have a permit.

That's a good question about the gun in checked luggage though. Maybe the plane didn't stop in Canada at all, it was just a Canadian airline?

Normally, there are multiple layers of scrutiny when checking a gun on a flight. Although, some airports only have TSA involvement...not as strict or secure. Quite bizarre.

I'm thinking Public Service Announcement.

Prayers for everyone there, and their families.

In air travel it used to mean Pacific Southwest Airlines. They were infamous for planes painted with smiles and flight attendants wearing miniskirts.

I didn't say the attack makes sense. I meant security measure that make sense. One of those happens to be if you don't want this specific incident to happen again the makes sense security measure would be a travel party can only carry one or the other.

To other posters handguns can be used to hunt small game but many hunters will carry a hand gun for situations where you would not use your hunting rifle such as a shot to end an animals misery or to kill a venomous snake. I know my grandpa taught me to have both when hunting especially if we were going to be hiking to a spot first. (Also a side note in many state it is illegal to use certain calibers even for the mercy shot but a lot of hunters still do it and just hope they don't have a visit from the game warden).

I'd like to discuss this more, but figure the mods will have a problem, so I letting it go.

They're now saying there was an altercation on the plane (via CNN live news) which might have led to the attack.

I started wondering about that when they said he was taken into custody without incident.

Omg, I was almost going to say that, given how many plane "incidents" we've had lately, but then I thought, nah.
