Flipflops @ V&A?

I think that the dress code is referring to shower/beach flip-flops, and not the dressy type that you see in fashion now. If your flip flop has a heel, has embellishments, does not have a foam sole and is not made of plastic, then you have transcended the flip flop, and have become a dressy shoe with a strap between the toe.

This flip flop- is a no go

this "flip flop" is fine

because, seriously what is the difference between the above picture and this one- other than a strap between the toe (and obviously one a is wedge and one is a kitten heel, but use your imagination)

What do you guys want people to wear to V&As, a sensible pump? :rotfl::rotfl2:

I would not wear anything with the strap between the toes. Usually if I go to V&A I'm wearing pantyhose anyhow (and I hate pantyhose). The last shoe photo (the non-thong sandal) I'd consider acceptable for me to wear. yes, I would distinguish between that and a thong sandal.

LOL! I totally agree!

Why on earth would you wear pantyhose (unless you are secretly a member of the royal family- Kate is that you?). ;)

I hope that you don't wear pantyhose with open toed shoes, I think that's even more of a no-no than "flip-flops" :rotfl2:

In all seriousness, I'm guessing there is an age divide between those that think dressy shoes with a strap between the toe (i.e. flip-flops) are acceptable and those that don't.

I was waiting for someone to be the voice of reason in this flip flop debate!

Who wants reasonableness on a DisBoards discussion?????!!!! [/sarcasm]

I do not believe that a flip flop of any type is acceptable for a restaurant the caliber of Victoria and Albert's. I do not find the second shoe in the pictures all that dressy to be honest. Dressier then the first one? Yes. Dressy enough for that meal? No.

Oh, and I am only 29...

To the OP, glad you enjoyed the meal...and glad you decided against the flip flops. :)

I've been meaning to try V&A, but the cost (between the meal and what we'd have to pay in childcare) is prohibitive. Also, DH HATES dressing up, so it would be a BIG ask to get him to go with me. :D

I'm 53 and agree! I'd wear the third pair, but not the first or second. Those are still flip flops and not nice enough for V&A. I always say I'm a flip flop diva. I live in flip flips pretty much year around and have several pairs of very nice dressy ones. No way would I wear any of them to V&A. I have a pair of silver ones and also a pair of black ones both with rhinestones that look alot like the ones in the second picture, but are little nicer. I love them, but again no way would I wear them to V&A.

So its the tiny strap between the toe that everyone finds offensive? There is no real difference between this shoe

and this shoe

Other than a tiny strap between the toe.

Let me get this straight, its ok if the strap goes around the ALL the toes, its the toe segregation that is the problem. :rotfl2::rotfl:

So how about this shoe- its seems to pass the Disboards test, UNTIL- you notice that it has a strap between the toes!

Is it is a flip-flop? Is it a shoe? and more importantly- are Vicky and Al going to toss me out on my keister if I dare darken their door in such a shoe? ;)

I don't think I'd wear any of the shoes pictured in this thread to a formal dinner, but I find the chunky wedges more egregious than the kitten-heel thong sandals by far. Wedges just remind me of horse hooves.

I would likely opt for ballet flats, personally.

I cannot stand flip flops. I LOATHE that stoopid toe divider.. chafes and irritates the webbing between my big toe and it's neighbor. they also have like ZERO support and protection and most podiatrists will tell you they are worse than going barefoot.

i simply cannot fathom wearing them at all, let alone to walk miles and miles a day

I will admit to wearing what is probably considered a no go(sporty or casual) sandal to V&A mostly because my feet are deformed and most strappy/dressy shoes i cannot wear at all. they are plain flats with velcro'd straps around the ankle and the wide part of the foot. but last time I went I was also in long but not quite ball gown so nobody saw them I bet.

That is why they make sheer toe pantyhose. Besides, if I don't wear them with strappy sandals I will get blisters.

I'm also a hater of the toe divder (my toes hate them) so I rarely wear thong sandals in any case, but I'd never ever wear them to someplace that fancy anyway.
