flip flops

I also live in flip flops in the warm months...and I've walked around Disney during our last 3 trips in flip flops only. (however our most recent one I had to wear sneakers 2 days as it was really chilly out.)

I have about 4 pairs of Teva flip flops...so comfortable - all fabric upper. (plastic and leather just give the worst blisters IMO...these really feel great)

Never had a problem with being run over by strollers/losing my shoe/having sore feet...

It really depends on the person. We usually go to WDW once a month, and I always wear my Old Navy flip-flops that I bought for $2 on clearance. They are incredibly comfortable for me. Never had a problem being stepped on, ankles turning in, etc.

Is your DD good about keeping them on? That would be my main concern. My kids tend to kick their shoes off while riding in the stroller. Just to be safe, I'd bring a back-up pair of shoes.

How about Tevas or something similar? We all wear them and find them very comfy. They stay on, even when wet and dry quickly.
LLBean sells something similar for $19- $24 in the kids section. They are colorful and padded. They might be a good compromise to flip flops that don't stay on so well. No worries about soggy socks and sneaks after getting off of Splash Mt or Kali Rapids, either.

I would not suggest flip flops. I have been to WDW many times and never had problems, but last time... We hauled our way through three parks our first day (EE at MGM, lunch in Epcot, Wishes in MK) and I honestly could not walk the second day. I didn't have any blisters, but my calves were unbearably tight. My family begged me to get a wheelchair (seriously), but I refused as I thought that would be ridiculous. I found walking backwards helped a lot (like that didn't look ridiculous!). If they strapped on or had a backing, I would have had no problem...

I would seriously discourage flip flops for people of any age. As described above, the amount of walking at WDW without adequate footwear could increase the susceptibility of stress fractures or ligament injury. Flip flops just don't have the support for the arch of the foot and are very uncomfortable for individuals without good foot posture. Those posters who report no problems are the lucky ones who aren't predisposed to those types of injuries.

I would compromise with her and get her a really good pair of sandals. Flip Flops are so dangerous for kids. Our school does not allow them at all. I would also take her tennis shoes, and keep a close eye on her feet.

I never thought I would wear flip flops for walking until our last June trip. It rained every single day all day long! Nothing beats flip-flops for drying off quickly. Besides, I get blisters no matter how well my sneakers are broken in but after wearing flip-flops for 9 solid days - no blisters. I did do use mole skin where in one or two spots but it was soooooo much better than sneakers. These weren't the average flip flops though. They had more of a cushioned bottom that conformed to my foot after a few hours. Now I break in flip flops before I go instead of doing the sneaker thing. :D

::yes:: Totally agree. I broke my toe prior to my last WDW trip and I wore my Nike running shoes everywhere. They were the only thing sturdy enough to protect my injured foot. Even with the running shoes I was still dodging people, strollers and scooters. Some woman who had to get in my space (even though there was several feet of space around me) managed to step on my broken foot. I'd hate to see what would have happened if I had been wearing sandals.

My girls love wearing flip flops too. So.... we were going to Islands of Adventures and knew that we would be wet. My oldest begged to not have to wear wet athletic shoes all day and I caved and let her wear flip flops (against my better judgement). On the way to the car her foot began to swell. She had actually broken her foot because she had no protection from the pressure of walking all day (a stress fracture). We pushed her in a wheelchair the rest of our trip. We still had a great vacation and she now bows to my wisdom!

Of course you must make the best decision for your child. Some flipflops have more support then others. Just wanted to share our story, hope it helps!

OMG!!! Her foot broke just from walking!!!! :earseek:

compromise and let her wear sandals/flip flops in the evenings. I wore tennis shoes to the parks during the day but in the evening if we went back to watch a parade or out to a casual dinner I usually wore sandals or flip flops. It gave the tennis shoes some time to dry out from the sweat and such

Sorry for butting in. I thought this discussion was about John Kerry.

Carry on.
