Hi everyone

Forgive me if this has been asked before as I am a newbie to this forum, but we were considering buying into vacation club - Animal Kingdom Lodge Villas.

My question is, flight wise is there any partticular site to get flights from to make this cost effective as opposed to a package deal holiday?

Do BA and VA have flight sales? What is a realistic cost for a return flight?
TIA

BA and VA do have flight sales, but they tend to be for the slower times of year such such as Feb/March and Nov/early Dec. I haven't seen prices in their sales below the £340ish mark recently, whereas a couple of years ago we didn't need to pay more than £280 (fuel surcharges have increased since then).

If you join a loyalty scheme like Virgin's Frequent Flyer you can quite quickly build uo enough points to get Miles plus Money seats, but these are often only a few ££s less than the regular price when they have their sales.

It's also worth checking out fly-drive costs, as these can sometimes be better value than flight only, and dates are released further in advance than flight only :)

It's also possible to get flights and fly-drives with some of the charters, but I'm not familiar enough with them to give you the detail. There's a bigger audience on UK Trip Planning, so try posting there. :)

Tia it also depends on what time of year & where you can fly from, for instance-Glasgow,we like to go for 3 weeks at a time so this rules out most charters,we also like to go Sept/Oct so at the minute we are looking at +£500 per adult. Now in the past we have flown out of Manchester for as little as £129 but to be honest with all the surcharges I would think that these prices are a thing of the past! We are going to look & probably buy at AKV in Sept,we also know that we have stayed at Hotels for a lot less but DVC are Deluxe resorts & we would normally baulk at the prices these cost, but I suppose either way you still need flights. If you are also willing to go via somewhere that also usually makes the flights cheaper E.g Continental thru' Newark

I was based in London for 15 years before I moved the gang to Celebration. I always used Trailfinders....but I found that any time that resembled a school break was expensive and got booked quickly. My wife recently went to Cumbria for her grandfather's birthday and couldn't even get a flight out of Orlando because it was half term.

We're going in October (for our first trip "home" to SSR) - Expedia had a 3 day sale about a month ago and we got return flights with BA for £318 each.

Keep shopping around for good deals. Keep in mind that if you don't mind layovers then costs will come down too. We have done this for the past 4 years, but are getting sick of it and flying direct from Glasgow next holiday.
