I'm just new to this so I hope I'm posting this on the right page! We're a party of 11 (3 separate families) and normally go to Florida every second year. We decided last June that we would head out this summer to Florida as it's a family member's special birthday. We have been looking for flights from Glasgow (that's where we stay) since July last year. We just can't believe how expensive they are compared to previous years. I know things go up slightly every year but this year each flight is about £150 more per flight per person and since there are 5 members in my family we just can't do it! Has anyone else found prices much more expensive this year?

£622 return for the direct Virgin Flight in April for me solo. I was happy to pay this. But it occurs to me that this is about three times more than what my family paid about six years ago, However that was a package deal on a tourist charter flight. Where are you looking?

We normally go with BA - Glasgow-Heathrow-Orlando - but they're sitting at over £700! As for Virgin they're up at £1,000 along with Aer Lingus! I think we've checked every single airline but can't get anything less than £700. The most we have ever paid is £550 and that was a flydrive!! Just wondered if anyone knew the reason for the large jump in fares this year

Are you looking for flights just into MCO (Orlando International), or are you also checking for SFB (Orlando Sanford)? Sanford is farther than MCO, but not a huge deal if you're renting a car while you're there. Icelandair is the airline that flies in there.

Not knowing the dates you're traveling, I just picked dates at random and used the "search near these dates" option. Economy flights from Glasgow -> Reykjavik -> Sanford Orlando are from £360 here and £323 back flying April 28 - May 14. Check their site and see if the flights they have would be a better option for you.

Plus the Sanford airport is a lot smaller than MCO, so you don't have to get there as early for flights as you do MCO, and it's a lot less chaos there.

thanks for the reply - yeah we've checked Sanford and Tampa airport too as we've flown into these airports in the past. We can leave any date after 28th June and that is peak season for school holidays in Scotland. sadly it's it not looking at all likely we'll get to Florida this year
