Flight time change?

Please help an infrequent flyer.....

I noticed that my Jan SW flight is sold out (was hoping for a lower price, guess not :sad1:) and also that the takeoff time changed by 15 minutes. Is it typical for times to change? If so, will I get a notification if it changes closer to my flight date, or do I need to keep checking the website?

Thanks!

It happens, some airlines more than others:rolleyes1. SWA flights i've booked rarely have time changes but it's always good to monitor your flight for times and price drops.

They are supposed to send you an email but just make sure to check before you leave.

Most airlines can and do make major changes to their schedules and you can see significant flight time changes, changes from non-stop flights to connecting flights, etc.

SWA is the least likely to make changes period and when they do it's generally only to move the departure by a few minutes one way or another. They almost never completely drop a flight, move me from a nonstop to a connecting flight, or make a major change in flight times.

Not unusual at all----especially is you book far in advance!! I predominately fly Delta and had two trips overseas this summer which were booked 6 months out. Both changed--one change made the trip impossible due to too close of connection time--but I called and they made flight changes which were more sensible time wise. No charge for the change.

I am a frequent SW flier. In my experience, it is very common for SW to make changes of 5, 10, 15 minutes. I believe they will notify you of anything over 30 minutes. Although, the last time they notified me, I was already in the airport. Kind of defeated the purpose of that one. :headache:

If I were you, I would keep checking. As an aside, did you purchase EBCI?

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I've only flown a handful of times in the past 10 years (wasn't brave enough to venture on a plane when the kids were small) so I had no idea flights could be changed to connecting, etc. Luckily this change was only by 15 minutes.

Hmmmm......EBCI. Yes, I purchased it for the return flight (that sold out). I wasn't going to for the way down - just planned on being at the computer at the 24 hour mark - but maybe I will need to if that flight sells out too? I would really like the 6 yr old w/ a parent and the 9 & 11 yrs olds to at least sit together, if not with the family. Decisions, decisions.

Good idea for the sold out flight. Keep an eye on the first flight. If it sells out, I would purchase. Else, I would just be online at T-24 as you planned. It is a great airline. I have yet been split up from my children and have yet to pay for EBCI. I have always checked in right at T-24 though.
