I've never worn these before but I'm starting to feel much older now that my DD has hit double figures and I think it's time to at least think about it for our upcoming trip.

I had a quick look in Boots the other day and they had loads but they were all based on foot size - trouble is my legs are quite big and I was wondering if anyone knows of anywhere you can get some that use a calf measurement in addition to foot size, I don't want them to 'dig in' or cut the circulation off completely!

I have wide calves too and I bought scholl flight socks. They didn't dig in although they do feel firm.

I kept mine on until we got to the hotel and my legs were much better than usual.

when i flew when i was pregnant i had to have these as i was carrying twins and i got mine from my doctor who measured my calfs and feet etc so they would fit.

might be worth asking them

Flight socks are advised, however they do indeed need to be correctly fitted. There is a brand called Activa that do compression hosiery, and they have good fitting guidelines, but I would recommend visiting the practice nurse at your surgery as they can work out what size you would need based on calf/ankle/length of foot measurements. They can also assess if you're suitable for them (no problems with arteries, diabetes etc). You can get them on prescription then.

Best long haul advice is to drink plenty, avoid alcohol and keep moving as much as you can
