5 days till we go!!!

I was at the gp yesterday getting my prescription and a letter about my medication to take with me and he said I should get some flight socks .

I've looked at boots online and they seem to come in black ! Argh I'm going to have to totally re think my flight outfit as I can't wear black socks with light blue 3/4 trousers & trainers - the fashion police won't let me in to the states never mind immigration lol

Seriously though do you need to wear them before & after the flight ? Or could I take them and change on the plane? I obviously want to use them correctly to get the benefit of them ?
Any help advice is really appreciated - thanks

We ve always just put them on on the plane then off when we land, not sure if that's the correct use!

If I'm wearing covered shoes I put mine on beforehand, if I'm wearing sandals I wait until I'm on the plane! DH's are like black socks but mine are like flesh-coloured pop socks - they've got them in Boots online, they're called knee highs in natural.

I also wear long trousers with them!

I had DVT 4 years ago flying back from miami so now I have to wear full length top to toe lovely nude ones whenever I fly over 2 hours (Having worn then for 12 months following my diagnosis! !) Fortunately they are open toed as as they're nude not too bad! Like others I pop to the loos before boarding.

Thanks for the info I got some beiges from boots

When do you guys take the socks off?

If convenient Karen goes to the toilet in the airport and takes hers off(as she did in Atlanta a few week ago), I just leave mine on until I get to the hotel or home on the way back.

As others have said, just pop to the loo. I put mine on/take off at my seat.
As to whether people should wear them, I've worked closely with a number of cardiovascular consultants and suggest that if in ANY doubt then you should wear them, as the balance of thinking is that they DO help.

Risk factors are if you have any family history of blood circulatory problems (eg Grandparents), age (over 40), smoker, contraceptive pill, etc. To be safe I believe wearing flight socks, adults to take aspirin before, on and after your flight day, avoid dehydration (not too much alcohol), move legs every 30 mins (paddle feet, occasionally walk around the cabin if you can) - all all easy steps to help reduce any risk - and start your holiday fit and well.
