Flying out of chicago December 6-14. The flight prices don't seem great. I have a toddler so don't want to lay over. Thoughts/tips/tools on picking the right time to buy? Seems like united AA and SW are all almost 300. This can't be the best it's gonna get, right? Last year same time we paid 139. Sigh.

Most flights are about $100 more than last year at this time, at least the ones we need. I sucked it up and just bought, but on SW so if it goes down then I can get a credit. I hate this guessing game. :badpc:

I hate it too and the hubster wants to wait...the waiting is making me nuts.

try to wait as long as you can.

i bought rt with UA back in april for a sept/oct non stop flight.

$260.

now, 66 days out, the same flight has dropped to $160.

when i called about the fares dropping the past 3 weeks, i was told UA usually drops flights 3 or so months out.

i would imagine the other carriers will drop prices around september for your december dates.

I bought our December fares as soon as SW released our dates. Paying $128 each way from NY. Higher than usual but I can live with it if they dont go down.

Last year I paid $82 for our flight down and $99 for our flight back. This year I paid $140 each way and they have done nothing but gone up! Flight down is now at $252 and flight back is at $212. I check daily several times a day and checked prices for months before finalling biting the bullet and booking (I booked at 8 weks out from our trip).

This is on SW.

Once you find a price you can live with, I'd book.

It's a volatile market. I'd find a price you can live with, buy them and then don't look back. The nice thing about SW is that you can get a credit if it goes down.

Definitely check the airlines websites a couple of times a day, I have a late October/November flight out of Chicago (MDW) and I had been seeing ridiculously high prices too ! but every once in a while there would be an $87 fare thrown in, which of course I grabbed ! :rotfl: So keep checking and good luck !! :wizard:

Our local news said something about airline prices going down at the end of August? Wasn't really listening because I don't have an immediate trip planned, but just thought I would share....

Chicagoan here.......

We went to Disney last Dec and got great fares. We paid under $200 each with Southwest.

I'm still waiting for end of Sept / early Oct right now b/c the prices are crazy for the dates I'm travelling which are a Sat & Monday (holiday).

THey are doing DINGS right now for Sept so still hoping to snag $99 or less one way.

I check multiple times a day and have seen the prices change.

I wish we were travelling on a Wed b/c those prices are great.

I hope to get $225 or less per person roundtrip. So, I'm waiting.........

I got the SW credit card so I have 50,000 pts to use up which helps me swallow the higher price I'll pay for airfare.

In short, I'd wait. You have a while and DINGS for Dec won't come out until October.
