Flight of Passage... Motion Sickness??

I've heard so much about this ride, but I am planning on skipping it. :worried: I feel sick just watching tiny youtube videos of on-ride experiences, so I think my chances are slim. I can sometimes handle IMAX movies but only if there is not a lot of motion or spinning. Star Tours in the 90's made me terribly sick, and I understand FOP is much more intense. I'm going to try Soarin' but I'm nervous about that too! I feel discouraged when it seems like theme parks are moving more and more into focusing on simulator rides. They are shutting out a portion of the population, but I guess we are too small a group to make a difference in their bottom line.

I felt a bit ill during and after riding FOP a few weeks ago. Not terrible. For me, Forbidden Journey, Minions, and Star Tours were all worse. Mission space and Soarin' are fine. It's nothing to do with the motion itself (for me). My understanding is that simulator rides are bad for some people because what your brain sees on the screen and feels from the ride's movement are not perfectly in sync. That's why closing your eyes can help, since it removes the sensory conflict. Presumably, that also means that this issue could improve over time for some people, if newer / better ride technology is able to bring the vision and motion into closer agreement.

We went to US a couple of years ago. I felt sick all afternoon after riding Forbidden Journey. We rode Minions on a different day; I gave up and closed my eyes through most of that one, and it doesn't really move through space much at all, just shakes a lot. I kept my eyes open on FOP and only felt a little queasy towards the end of the ride. We went to eat after leaving the ride, and I was fine after that.

I usually don't get motion sick but this ride made me feel blah. Headache with a bit of stomach upset. It didn't wow me enough to want to go again.

DH loved it though.

I thought FOP had more motion at the lowest level. I had no issues all the way at the top but down at the bottom I did close my eyes for a bit. But another alternative to Dramamine is to try the ginger chews. I know that I can now ride more coasters by eating one of these beforehand. And no side effects.

I think many who are prone to motion sickness will want to take some Dramamine in advance. 3 of 4 in our party were impacted without but felt fine with.

I'm glad I'm not the only one with the motion sickness issue haha. I watched the Youtube video of this, though, and it looks doable. No real drops. I'll still take a Bonine to be safe though.

I found this trip that I had motion sickness issues more frequently than I've ever experienced. (Getting older....). I told myself on FOP that I would close my eyes if I started to feel queasy, but the ride was so incredible that I resisted too long and became pretty nauseous. The good news was that finally closing my eyes did the trick, but I missed the last part of the ride.

I heard from the lady from WDW prep school (the blog)/WDW prep to go (the podcast) is that if you sit in the middle, you'll decrease your motion sickness. I think she discusses it in one of her recent podcasts (one of the last 4 - the ones titled may trip). The recent podcasts are very short in case you need to listen to more than 1. I like how she gets to the point and she explains things well.

I can definitely confirm. I have ridden FoP a lot. The only time I got motion sick was when I was on the second to last bike.

I was so nervous about finally riding that I almost skipped it last week. I have motion sickness issues and wear the patch. The group that we were with told me to close my eyes or look away from the screen. I thought the ride was amazing but there were parts that were way too intense for me. I took deep breathes, closed my eyes and looked to the sides from time to time. I'm glad I rode it but I was a bit nauseous after the ride. My boyfriend thought it was the most amazing ride he has ever ridden.

FYI for comparison- I never had issues with the old Soarin but felt a little queasy after the new one.

I know this is an old thread, but were you wearing the patch on FOP and still got sick?

Sorry for the delay. I have bad motion sickness issues. Yes, I was wearing that patch and felt a little nauseous. I wasn’t sick when we were done and I’m glad I tried it. I was fine once I was outside. Without the patch, I would have been a goner. FYI...I wear the patch for flying and cruises.
