Flight of Passage... Motion Sickness??

I can't ride Star Tours and depending on the drop sequence ToT can ruin the next hour for me. I took 2 Dramamine before going to AK and rode FoP first thing in the morning. It didn't effect me the way Star Tours does but I felt off for about 20 minutes. My equilibrium felt off and I must have been holding tight because my hands were tingly. If I could predict which way we were going next and fixate my eyes there I did ok. There's a little break in the middle that was helpful and the constant air made a huge difference. I will ride it once a trip from now on for my husband because he really enjoyed it. If he's not there I won't go haha.

How does this compare to Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey at Universal?

Forbidden Journey is much more intense, according to the 8 family members who rode both. I skipped Forbidden Journey because The TM told me it would bother me.

I'm so torn about this ride! I keep hearing about how incredible it is, but I'm so nervous to try it. I don't do as well on Star Tours ever since they changed it to 3D. I also have major emetophobia and don't want to risk getting sick and ruining my trip. :crazy2:

I'll be honest. FOP gave me horrible motion sickness about 20 seconds in. I think if you are prone to motion sickness from screen simulator type rides, it may be a problem. I can handle Soarin, but this is more intense. I was able to avert a major disaster by closing my eyes, going to my happy place, and taking deep breaths until the ride ended. If you want to try it, dose up on Bonine a couple hours before you ride, and then try closing your eyes if you start to get queasy. It is an amazing ride, so you may as well give it a go. Good luck!

I am only a LITTLE prone to motion sickness, and I got a tiny bit in FoP....I found that if I wasn't looking around, like more or less directly in front of me, it was minimized....kind of like the effect when you look around on mission space. I rode it 4 times last week, and I made sure I was looking straight ahead when I felt a little iffy, and I felt better. I think the "be in the middle to be less affected" thing might explain it, as most of the main action happens in the center of the screen, and if you are on the sides, you aren't looking as straight ahead as you could be.....but that might just be me and my experience of it....

Also strangely enough, the glasses kept sliding off my face 2 out of the 4 rides, and me trying to keep my head at a way that it didn't slide all the way off made it worse too....I just needed glasses that fit my head!

I rode last night and I was MISERABLE. I got car sick all the time as a child. But I have not had any problem in years. I am fine on Soarin.
I tried closing my eyes. That didn’t help.
It was the dives that really did me in.
I survived by breathing deeply and Praying I wouldn’t vomit.
I thought I would be fine reading this, and other, threads.
One and done for me

For me, Forbidden Journey is way worse (the Quidditch scene gets me for some reason!). I do get a little queasy on FOP but love that ride so much I do it anyway.

I am on the edge on many motion type rides and Bonine takes the edge off for me without drowsiness. Highly recommended.

did a quick trip in mid October and was very nervous about FOP as I cannot do anything spinning. I am fine on all coasters, and Soarin' but really have a hard time with Star Tours.

happy to report that I had NO issue with FOP. I am also a larger person and had no trouble fitting at all. right at the end of FOP there was a corkscrew-like turn but just when I started to worry about it, the ride ended!

BEST DISNEY EXPERIENCE EVER!!!

Do you do roller coasters? Like Big Thunder Mountain or Space? Everest?

I am hoping my experience is like yours. It's the spinning that's my undoing. Can't do teacups, the original mission space, anything that constantly spins in small fast circles. I can't even spin myself round more than one revolution without feeling queasy. I am usually fine on bigger arcs, BUT not if I can't see where I am going - then all bets are off. If the corkscrew is right at the end, I may be fine.

I have had neck surgery and on going neck issues so I don’t do coasters for that reSon. But I never had motion sickness issues when I did ride them

Hmm, I guess the dives are different on FOP because you are in a virtual experience?

I get travel sick on twisty roads, teacups, Star Tours but not usually on coasters. I took travel sickness pills every day just in case. Despite that FOP still made me feel sick. Mission Space green was fine and had loads of sick bags so when I got off FOP I asked if they had sick bags and the cast member said no and pointed out the nearest trash can! That seemed a very un-Disney response so I guess they don’t have many people throwing up on it.

Oh no. Sounds like I'm going to need to dose myself with some Bonine before I go! Seems like we both get motion sickness in the same types of situations.

I was so nervous about finally riding that I almost skipped it last week. I have motion sickness issues and wear the patch. The group that we were with told me to close my eyes or look away from the screen. I thought the ride was amazing but there were parts that were way too intense for me. I took deep breathes, closed my eyes and looked to the sides from time to time. I'm glad I rode it but I was a bit nauseous after the ride. My boyfriend thought it was the most amazing ride he has ever ridden.

FYI for comparison- I never had issues with the old Soarin but felt a little queasy after the new one.

My wife gets motion sickness from everything these days... Tower of Terror, Everest, Rock N Roller Coaster, Star Tours, my driving, etc. She did not get sick at all on Flight of Passage.

For everyone mentioning Dramamine, do you know about Bonnie, or generic equivalent? This variety is non-drowsy and once a day

Now I’m nervous for hubs, he’s very prone to motion sickness :crazy2:

While not as bad as Universal's Forbidden Journey (didn't help that the ride got stuck and we just rocked back and forth over and over until it got fixed), FOP definitely made me feel bad. I can do Star Tours and Soarin without any problems so was surprised that FOP bothered me as much as it did.
