Flight of Passage a 1 and done for Me

OP - thanks for sharing your perspective! I think it is good for folks to hear that everyone is an individual when it comes to their experiences on a ride.

I know I was pushed on rides as a child in a way that haunts me today and folks often think "I'm crazy" because they don't understand why I have some negative responses on some rides but not others.

It was a one and done for me as well. I found the whole experience uncomfortable and never thought it might be a touch of claustrophobia. The configuration of the seat was also almost painful to me, like I was bending in an unnatural way. I never felt immersed, maybe because I was so uncomfortable. I had never seen the movie so had no real points of reference. I found the movie hard to focus on, or slightly blurry too so that made me feel a little ill. Was so relieved when it was over! Went with friends who love it and would ride it over and over who didn't understand why I didn't love it. Fair enough, I don't understand why people love it! lol

You are locked into your seat and held in a certain position--I can see how that can be an issue for some. It did not feel like a tight, enclosed space to me, but I did feel very constrained and that made even me uncomfortable a little. Once the ride got going, I forgot all about it though.

I'll be in your one and done club!

Motion sickness an claustrophobia as well (don't EVER put me in a window seat on an airplane!). Loved the ride. It was fabulous. Feeling the "breathing" was an especially nice touch...but, I think even 15 seconds longer and Disney'd have been shutting down a bay for clean up. Apparently, I can hold out for just 4 minutes. The problem with simulators is that my ears (or eyes) say "You're moving!" and the other one says "No, you're not!" and for me, that disconnect is what makes me sick. I'm fine driving a car/sitting in the front, but not in an airplane (eyes don't register movement). I can ride a Silly Silo (both ears and eyes definitely know I'm moving), but the old Body Wars ride was a Barfy Wars ride for me.

Makes me sad that the new SWGE attractions are screen based. They're pretty long, so I won't be riding them. I did Mission Space once, and boy was that a mistake, from both a claustrophobia as well as a motion sickness standpoint...and I had a scopalamine patch on for that one!

I'm almost with you one the one and done in that I don't ride it if my son isn't with me but he loves it so I ride it with him. He's an adult by the way, he is very claustrophobic (he can not be put in a MRI machine) and is afraid of heights and gets motion sickness. Even with all that he loves that ride and says he feels none of that on it and since he has permanent nerve damage in his spinal cord, there are very few motion rides he can ride. My problem the first few times I rode it were the darn glasses were too big for my tiny little head and I had to ride with one hand hold them on, which gave me a weird motion sickness feeling. They have fixed the glasses issue since then so thankfully that isn't a problem. I do have reflux and being pushed up against the front didn't work for me. Now I know to push back with my arms when the back comes forward and it leaves me some room so I'm not pushed against the front. I have had cast members come up behind and push the back in but I'm still able to brace pretty well with my arms and keep it from coming totally forward. It was the same thing I used to do with Stich in Magic Kingdom, I would put up in the seat when the bars came down on my shoulder so there would be room.

For me, while it's a pretty ride, it's not worth the discomfort to ride it if I don't have to.

I am a bit claustrophobic as in can't have sheets tucked in, cant stand when DH rolls over and blankets "trap" me etc so I was concerned when I read it was a back and leg constraint. Rode it the other day for the fist time and when we sat down I did not scootch all the way forward with my body or legs so when the things came up, I had plenty of room. Didn't bother me at all. Maybe I missed a bit of the submerssiveness but don't feel like I did, I loved the ride!!!!!!!

Somewhat of a panic attack on Mission Space Orange; severe claustrophobia on this. Soarin' no problems. FoP- it is not claustrophobia so much as you really feel you are flying. So you have to get over that *feeling of dropping down with nothing underneath you. You don't really go anywhere but it's very realistic. The first time it was very intense and it was over before I got acclimated to it. The next times were much better.

I get motion sickness but FOP was not that bad. I will say that, personally, I did not think the ride lived up to all the hype, i totally enjoyed it but not really wowed by it. I much rather ride a roller coaster then a simulator anyways.

Many years ago it took me three different tries on the (original) orange version of Mission to Mars to realize it made me feel so bad that it ruined my day, and I mean EVERY TIME I did it I felt absolutely horrible the rest of the day.
I guess I kept trying because I couldn't believe it... because I love roller coasters and anything/everything fast, high, dropping and even motion simulators (FOP would love to ride all day without getting off).
I appreciate your post, KyleAfterAWhile. So Hard to say how anyone will really react to any ride or attraction, but it's always good to share.
Hope everyone is having a magical day! :goodvibes

I like to look at the people on the different levels to give me that feeling of 'space' that I'm not locked in in a small room. I don't like that.

i am sharing my experience in the event it helps somebody else as this attractions is asked about a lot. yes ,i know we are all different. my experience is not a one size fits all. the idea is to help others who *could* be like me. this attraction did not affect me one little bit from a motion sick perspective, which i can be prone to, but it gave me the most horrible claustrophobia. it could not be over fast enough. i was very impressed with the film itself but i struggled to enjoy it because i felt trapped in that seat. so my point in sharing, if you have claustrophobia, you might consider letting somebody in your party who understands you and your fear try it first and tell you if you think you can handle it.
When the ride was over, the back and leg restraints did not release for me. I was solo and all the other folks got off and began walking away. It was just a few seconds till the cast member arrived to manually set me free. That was a claustrophobic moment for me. I’ve ridden quite a few times since that day, and I worry a tiny bit every time, but it has never happened again.

No claustrophobia for me but violent violent motion sickness. I could not wait for the ride to be over and it ruined me for hours, even with my prescription patch. No thank you.

I'm in the one and done category too. I've really been struggling with motion sickness on the screen based rides. But I was surprised how the restraints created a sense of claustrophobia for me too. That typically isn't an issue for me.

There's a test seat outside the queue area if that helps - try how the restraints feel before you go on the ride itself :)

My family is happy with my claustrophobia. It means an extra ride FOP ride for one of them. Lol.

While I don’t get claustrophobic on FoP, I consider it a one and done for me because the ride sensation feels too much like that whooshing/rushing sensation that you feel against your body when you’re on a roller coaster and my mind is just like NOPE! I had to keep staring at the wall of bikes with everyone else riding to convince myself this isn’t a coaster (I am terrified of coasters and have been on a few at WDW and they aren’t for me). It’s sad because FoP is visually stunning and there are moments when I do consider riding it when we’re here but I’m too chicken. FWIW I will forever love Star Tours, Smuggler’s, and Soarin and can never get enough of them!

Thank you for the heads up! How was this in comparison to Soarin’? I’m going to Disney with my parents in a month and they LOVE Soarin’ but can NOT handle rides like Mission Space. Too claustrophobic and they get sick from the dizziness. How does Flight of Passage compare to either of those in your opinion?
I am very claustrophobic and feel the same about Mission Space! I could barely breath on it. No issues at all on FOP however. It’s my favorite ride and can’t get enough of it. For me claustrophobia is around my face. Mission space you are in such an enclosed space and something right in your face. It’s awful! FOP you’re in a big room with nothing around you, the only restriction is to your seat...which is to any thrill ride they don’t want you to fall out of 🤷🏼‍♀️ Because of the open space around me I’m fine, if that helps you. I think some people have different triggers of their claustrophobia. Mine was def triggered by that coffin they put you in with 4 other people on Mission Space 😂

I can see why those who suffer from claustrophobia would have an issue with this ride (its the way youre strapped in, as mentioned). Me, I have an issue with motion sickness. This ride was kinda bad for me. I didnt throw up. Just felt nauseous. So its a one and done for me too.

My dad has said he has a bit of claustrophobia. I think it's more when he doesn't have anything else to focus on and just feels stuck someplace (I really hate the part of a haunted house that makes you walk through the inflatable walls that squeeze against you for this reason - nothing else to focus on but that enclosed space). He handles FoP & even Mission Space Orange with ease since he has the screen to focus on.

But I definitely can see where one is coming from. The seating can make one feel really entrapped. If it weren't Disney, one might think it was a Jigsaw-esque death contraption 🤣 .
