Flight Delay and Will Miss Transatlantic Cruise

My family is devastated. We were to leave today on an awesome adventure. We booked the transatlantic cruise 436 days ago and have been counting down the days. We booked our air through Disney because we felt that if there were any delays, Disney would somehow take care of us. When I received our itinerary from Disney a couple of months ago, I was very concerned because they had us arriving in Orlando at 1:40 today only about three hours before sailing. I called twice but was told not to worry. We got up early this morning, excited about the upcoming adventure, and went to the airport only to find there was a mechanical problem with the plane and the flight would be delayed by four hours! I immediately called Disney. They looked at options but in the end we were told there was no way to get us to the port in time for sailing. The only thing they could do was to try to get us to Boston on Wednesday to meet the ship there. On top of that, Delta has lost our luggage in their system. This would have been our tenth Disney Cruise and after a year and half of planning and anticipation it has ended like this. So sad :-(

My goodness! That is terrible! Will you meet the ship Wednesday or rebook the cruise?

Disney has offered us no options. At this point, I guess we will try to get to Boston. I always heard Disney would help you out if you used Disney Air but obviously not. They have done nothing. This would be our tenth Disney cruise. It is extremely disappointing but by sons are learning disabled and just don't know how to cope. They have been crying for hours now. They marked off each day for the last 436, got two weeks off work, and it is so difficult to see them so devastated.

Did you have Disney insurance? Just wondering as we have always been told they won't do anything unless you buy the trip insurance. If you bought trip insurance you should get the daily cost of the trip back until you meet the boat in Boston.

Unfortunately no. I guess you are correct. They will do nothing if you don't have insurance. Aside from financial compensation, they are showing no empathy for our situation. We are basically on our own.

I am an idiot for not buying insurance but even financial compensation can not make up for the disappointment my sons are dealing with right now.

There is really no advantage to using Disney Air as I was led to believe. I always fly in a day early but was told this was not necessary if we used Disney Air. We learned a bitter lesson.

I am so sorry to hear this awful experience has happened to you and your family. As a mother of an autistic child I can only begin to imagine how terrible this must be for your sons to cope with.
I hope you get your luggage and are able to meet up with the ship in Boston and try to salvage the rest of your holiday.
Sending positive thoughts your way x

Thank you!

:grouphug: Hugs to you all, and so very sorry, hopefully they will make it up to you aboard, sending you pixie dust for your travels to Boston pixiedust:

Where are you flying from? There was not another flight on another airline that you could get on? Even if you had to split up to get enough seats?

I am very sorry to hear that Disney failed you so much! I hope you get to reconnect with the ship in Boston! I really don't get why Disney is so uncaring. They sold you a package of cruise AND flights so they very well are responsible to get you to that ship, insurance or not! Hope you get some more competent people there on Monday, when managers will be back in the office!

That's so awful and disappointing! It's good they offered to get you to Boston. You will miss a couple of days. Perhaps the kids can focus on the rest of the trip and perk up a bit. :)
