Flickr, Imgur, how to attach photos, etc.

No, I'm saying the first. If you post on the DIS and are later banned, you won't be able to get back onto this site, under that account name to edit out your personal photos. You and I post here enough that we see trolls baiting us all the time. :stir: Usually we don't bite. Or if we do, we try not to rack up too many points to get the boot. Not that I would know anything about that. :rolleyes1 ;) I just personally don't like not being able to get back in to edit out any personal photos if I do get the boot from here. So, this is a good place to have the DIS host your photos if you don't care about that. And/or IF you think you won't get into future trouble here.

If you do want to maintain control over your own photos, do look for another hosting site, where you wouldn't have any reason to be booted off of.
Well, I don't really post any personal photos here. Only photos that show things that people ask about. Like locations onboard the ships, or other things. I already went back several years ago and removed all photos I did post when I was a newbie that actually had our faces in them.

You were smart. :thumbsup2 Imagine someone who hasn't done that yet. Gets the boot and then realizes they want to take out all their photos and now can't. The DIS is very Googleable. So those pics would always be out there.

f I do get the boot from here.
Say it's not so!!! :faint:

One other FYI on hosting pictures on the dis itself. Over the past 19 years I have been here, I have seen multiple dis photo hosting versions ended and replaced by others, and the previously hosted pictures gone, along obviously the links with them. I have no idea how long the current setup has been in use. And that scenario can really happen with any hosting site. There was a big hosting site, very popular, can't recall the name, that recently ended and closed up. It was one I recall that I would have thought would never close up. But it did. No guarantees on the Net.

I have so many pictures here on the dis in Photobucket, I just elected to pay the $99 a year hotlinking fee. I had been paying $15 or $25 for years with a 'pro' account, so not a deal breaker for me. I could not imagine moving the pictures and attempting to change the links here on the dis. :faint:

That was Photobucket. You were already paying for the "pro" account, so it didn't affect your pics. But, I have dozens of pics on my Cookies from cake mixes! thread. You can scroll down & see all the grey Photobucket boxes where I haven't moved my pics yet. :badpc:

I refuse to pay for their hosting, especially because of the way they didn't give us any real warning or time to make changes. I also think the site will go down in a matter of months. They lost so many people in a mass exodus. So, you might want to start moving all your pics somewhere else in case they do go under.

Thank you so much @Imzadi for the detailed instructions. I really appreciate the help in brainstorming this out and learning my options!

Thank you both for your thoughts on this! I like the ease of just dragging and dropping pics, but not having those pics be "deletable" anymore is a good point. I'll look into blogger as well while I think on this.
Can't you delete them by editing the post?

Yeah, since I'm not really concerned about getting banned, just knowing I could edit them would probably be fine. It would be the easiest option by far! Of course Google Photos is nice because you can break the links to shared photos with just a click of a button and you don't have to track down every post they're in.

I'm sure I've put more thought into this than most people do!

Yes. I received an email discussing it.

In the past, I always had a 'pro' account, I think that's what they called it My photos were never bothered

I think they are trying to get back in it

That's actually bull by Photobucket. I just something about this on GMA. They said the European Union has enacted some laws/regulations that went into effect last night/yesterday over there, about what 3rd parties can do. I can't find anything specific yet online, except I did find one link that said basically 3rd parties MUST get our permission FIRST before they can use their services for third party ADVERTISING - which is basically what Photobucket did, they HIJACKED our photos we posted all over the web, replaced it with ugly grey boxes ADVERTISING their third party hosting services.

So now, all they have to do is send a proper email to everyone informing us they are enacting some changes in say 60-90 days and then TURN OFF all the pics for those of us who will not pay for their 3rd party hosting services. So instead of a grey box, we will just see little X's, showing the links are broken.

Photobuckets NEW pricing says: "Photobucket is now offering a new, competitive subscription package with an ad-free experience, storage and third-party image hosting for just $1.99 per month (or $19.99 per year) - which is 95% less than their previous image hosting plan. A free subscription option is still available to customers who do not require third-party image hosting."

Basically the free subscription only means free photo STORAGE.

But, this TEMPORARY reprieve means I can actually see my pics now to MOVE them somewhere else. :thumbsup2

Imgur has some backing from Reddit so I wouldn't be too concerned about it going away soon.

Nope, you understood the term "hotlinking" correctly. I also think they just haven't cracked down on everyone.

It's very simple to enact anti-hotlinking on the server, that would affect everyone all at once. I have had to do it in the past when I used to run a DVD screencap site, people would find my images indexed on Google Image search and hotlink them. One setting in my hosting account eliminated that problem.

I posted on the DIS using Photobucket for YEARS until they decided to charge a HEFTY annual fee....I now use Shutterfly.

Nope, you understood the term "hotlinking" correctly. I also think they just haven't cracked down on everyone. And I'm concerned that they might crack down by doing exactly what Photobucket did, block everyone's photos which are hotlinked. :badpc:

I still have not moved all my photos from Photobucket.....
....I haven't figured out how to transfer them to my Shutterfly account....
