Fleas at All Star Sports ?

Hi, I am a travel agent who just had clients get back from All Star Sports. They have been infested with fleas and I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem? I am in contact now with Disney for several reasons, have someone check the room, clients are furious and make sure this happens to no one else.

I know I heard about lice a few months back but there doctor has confirmed fleas and a complete infestation. Any similar situations??

Could you keep me updated on this. I will be there next week with a my 3 yr old DD and my 3 month old DD. I would like to know if the problem has been resolved!!!! I'm so itchy right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't forget about service dogs. They are allowed at the hotels. Also fleas could possibly stow away in the clothing and luggage of another guest.

Do you know what building they were staying in? :dog2: :pug: :dog: :paw: :paw:

I got bit by something at AKL on one of our trips.
Not exactly sure what it was, but it could have been fleas or the noseums (sp?). I've gotten bitten by both before at non-disney locations with the same super itchy outcomes.

I called the front desk and we got moved to another room.

I got stuck going to the urgent care place because my little piggy toe had gotten bitten 4 times, and was all swollen and i didn't want to loose it.
It was bad enough waking up all night because i had like 10 bites all over my legs and feet. It was an itchy trip.

I didn't get any more bites after we switched rooms, so i guess it was the room.

I now carry benadryl cream stuff just in case. All bugs prefer me over my husband, so i get bit and he doesn't.

I think its very possible if someone brings their suitcases, clothing and there pet has fleas problems, then some of the fleas get taken on vacation too.
They hang out in the carpet, and get the next vacationer in the room, and get a free ride back the a new home.

When my DH and I were first married we had a brand new apartment in a brand new building. Only three apartments on our floor were occupied.

Anyway, if there is anything that bites, it will always bite me and they did! At first I didn't realize what it was and was shocked to discover a flea on my leg.

It turned out that our apartment got infested with fleas. Who knows how?

Fleas apparently have the ability to go into a kind of suspended animation and can survive for months in a closed up room, just waiting for fresh meat to walk in, when they will become active and eat you up.

Vile creatures.

I checked into AKL once and the CM checking me in said she'd had an unusual day...someone had sneaked a cat into their room, it got out, and she had spent the morning trying to catch it.

Probably doesn't happen often, but there are stories of guests bringing in forbidden animals.

During our April 2005 stay at Pop we were disturbed all night by a dog barking in the next room. :paw: :dog: :paw:

The poor thing was locked up all day and night and every time a door slammed or telephone rung it would start barking all over again.

The CMs kept an eye on the room and when the guests returned the dog was taken to the kennels.

I read in a magazine that when you get home from vactioning anyplace you should empty your suitcase outside and vaccuum it out. Then wash all of your clothes. That should keep any uninvited guest from following you home.

That is a good idea. I asked my friend the vet and he said:Yes fleas can live for 2 years with out "fresh Meat". They can hide in someones suitcase and get to the hotel room and feast on the next guests with no actual pets in the room.
I think i will add flea powder to my packing list.

we just returned from a 7 day stay at AllStar sports 7-30 to 8-6....NO Problems what so ever like this in our room in the tennis building (rm 4136)....In fact no problems with this resort at all....was kind of worried because of some of the things I had read on here....rooms not that clean...resort looking Dingy....paint peeling.....etc.etc.etc....but like i said NO PROBLEMS...entire resort Clean....no signs of peeeling paint and we were all over the place....clean pools...food court very clean....we most definately would stay here again...Only thing I would change would be to request either Surf's up building or Football.....closer to all the action...pools, food court, and of course the bus stops....but other than that wouldn't change a thing...it was just a long walk to our room when coming back from the parks already tired....but we managed and found a couple of short cuts :cool1:
Oh Yeah...read on another post where someone was inquiring about the air conditioners at this resort....it was plenty cold...my DH likes it where you can almost see your breath in the room :cold: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: and he even remarked how great the air was....and believe me it was HOT and HUMID last week while we were there... :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

Only if you want to hike to your room...like i said that was the only bad thing...many times we were tempted to borrow the housekeeping golf carts that were sitting around...of course we didn't but it was really tempting :rolleyes1
Seriously...you will enjoy this resort....like I said No problems....there were even a lot of baseball teams there, for a national tournament, not noisy or crazy like some posts you read on here...we always asked the kids how they did, or what time they played ,etc. when we saw them.... always polite.... :cheer2:

Do they know what type of flea? Dog fleas, cat fleas, human fleas, etc, all are slightly different.

In any event, my heart goes out to those poor people!

Well we will see if there is any fleas in our room at the POP in September. DH is highly allergic to fleas. His ankles will sweal up and then where he gets bit it will bleed really bad. About a year ago we were at a friends house and they have a few pets; well anyways within an hour we had to leave cause hubby's ankles were so bad. He was put on an antibiotic and plus cream to help treat this. I've never seen anyone have a reaction with fleas this bad before prior to my husband. Thank god the kids aren't as bad as him. So we will hope for the best when we are down there. I'll gilve you a report when we get back.

I feel like there are things crawling all over me now, YUCK!!!

We've never had an experience like this at a Disney resort. BUT, a spring trip to Myrtle Beach was awful, awful, awful!! There were bed bugs and fleas in the room we were given (were later moved to a MUCH nicer condo, but the damage had been done!). About a month after we returned home, we had a flea infestation in our house. UGH!!! That was in May, and still trying to get rid of those nasty things!

I have been scared a bit now for about two weeks about this all.My brothers friend and his wife just came home from a cruise and both got head lice. I can live with fleas bites..but I dont want to come home from Disney with head lice.
:dog: :dog2: :pug:

When we stayed at YBC both my mom and I woke up completely bitten up.
