Flavors of Fun - A Food-Filled Dining Report (with pictures!!)

Yummmm! When we went to goofys I got a smothered rice krispy treat. It looked so great and I took two bites and couldn't bear to eat any more of it. My daughter didn't let me throw it away when we left, she brought it home and ate it. I dream about the pretzels though and want to get some of them next trip. Yummmmm!
Loving your report! If you want a ref. for a food taster/eater job, let me know. I'd be more than happy to write you a glowing one after this fantastic food report!

Thank you!! I might take you up on that :)

Amazing reviews and photos!

Thank you for reading! I'm happy you are enjoying everything!

So even though I was sad that my trip was coming to an end, I was so excited for dinner at Jiko!! I had been looking forward to this meal since last year when we had breakfast at Boma and I wandered over to look at their menu. As soon as my sister said she had eaten there and loved it, I knew we had to include it in the plans for this trip!

We got to the restuarant close to our reservation time and were seated after a short wait.

We were very excited!

We started out with some cocktails!

I had the Hangin' Out in Cape Town:

It was very yummy and tasted like a Cosmo, so that worked for me!

JE had the Mount Kilimarita:

I tried his and it tasted just like a regular margarita (not that I'm complaining!)

I believe EE had a glass of Riesling!

Then it was time for some food!

Appetizers first:
PP had the Curried Samosas:

I didn't try these since I was far too busy with my appetizer, but everyone else tried it and loved them!

I had the Artisan Cheese Selection:

Wow! It was even better than I thought it would be!! I typically order any cheese plates that restaurants have and this was fabulous! The little breads that came with it were really good and flavorful! And there was just enough bread for all of the cheese. I kept the description of each cheese, but I do not have it with me right now. If anyone needs to know the names of the cheese I can get back to you.

Other than giving EE a little piece of cheese I didn't share my plate at all! And I do not have any regrets about that!

They were busy eating other food anyway!

EE shared her Taste of Africa with everyone:

I tried some too and it was really good! The dips were: Kalamata olive hummus, Durban Tikka Masala, and Malay spinach-lentil dip

JE shared his Kalamata Olive Flatbread with everyone too:

Everyone loved that as well! I thought we would be too full for our entrees, but I guess that was silly of me!

With dinner me and JE shared a bottle of Pinot Noir:

Not sure of the name, but it was really good! I apologize for not writing down the name of the wine, but I can tell you it was the least expensive Pinot Noir on the menu! So that should help!

I had the Oak Grilled Filet Mignon for my entree:

JE had the Filet as well:

Ok, I knew I would love it, but it was even better than I thought it would be! I love filet and I love mac & cheese so putting it together was a brilliant idea! I must commend the Jiko Chefs on that one. I'm looking forward to making some filet with mac & cheese someday soon! (Although I'm sure it won't be quite as good!)

PP had the Pork Tenderloin:

I got a chance to try some and it was really good!! Very tender!

EE had the Short Ribs:

The Short Ribs were fabulous!! I almost ordered them myself since I'm a big fan of Short Ribs, but I really can't pass up on a filet! The Short Ribs were served over some sort of potato. Very Yummy!

We did not have any dessert at Jiko since we had definitely eaten enough for one day (or one month.) But I was sad our fabulous dining experience was over!

Up Next: Our last meal: Breakfast at Whispering Canyon Cafe!

I love love love your reviews! Is it weird that I'm thinking about making a dining scrapbook for my trip? These pics inspire me, lol!

I consider myself very very lucky that I got a piece of cheese from SS's cheese plate and oh my goodness was it fabulous!

I absolutely loved the taste of Africa it's a ton of food though so I had to share it with everyone!! The samosas were so good I only felt bad that I talked PP into ordering them and he didn't like them as much as the rest of us did but he really liked some of my dips and the flatbread so he was all set :)

I always say when we go to Jiko that I'm going to order something new but every time I order the short ribs and I am never ever disappointed. They are so tender you don't really even need a knife and the potatoes are heaven! It was a great meal and even though I'm a huge dessert person I'm glad we didn't get dessert I wouldn't have wanted to spoil the meal by being over full.

Another great meal and Jikos remains one of our favorite places!

I love love love your reviews! Is it weird that I'm thinking about making a dining scrapbook for my trip? These pics inspire me, lol!

That is not weird at all!!! I have one whole scrapbook dedicated to food and I plan on scrapbooking a lot of the food from this trip too!!

Wow what a hard decision. Filet or short ribs, yummmm!
Thanks for more yummy pictures!

I am very lucky that my sister and mother are talented scrapbookers (is that a word??) So they can document all of my adventures in creative ways!

p.s. I'm from Columbus, Ohio too!

Yay!! I'm so glad there are other Disney lovers in Columbus! I try to keep my Disney obsession on the DL here - except for the Disney pins in my office! Go Buckeyes!

Thanks for the JIKO pics....the short rib is to die for.......

I love Jiko! I want to go back, but we've been going to a new nice restaurant every trip so I'm not sure when I will get to go back :confused3

Wow what a hard decision. Filet or short ribs, yummmm!
Thanks for more yummy pictures!

So glad other people here love pictures of food as much as I do!

yum yum yummy yum :rotfl2:
lots of fantastic reviews.xx

Thank you!

I am very sad to be posting the last meal of my fabulous Disney trip! This report has taken longer to complete than I thought it would, but I have still loved every minute of it!

We woke up bright and early to go to the Wilderness Lodge for breakfast at Whispering Canyon Cafe. It was my first time at the Wilderness Lodge and I was very impressed by it! The outside was beautiful and the inside was so lovely! We checked in a WCC, got a pager and were seated soon after.

I had heard a lot of different stories about this place so I wasn't sure what to expect, but it wasn't too crazy so I was happy about that :)

We all got the All You Care To Eat Skillet and we forgot to take a picture of the first one until we had already started eating out of it!

You would think after a weekend of taking pictures of our food we would have had it down by now, but we were all very excited about the skillet!

I must say I was still full from the entire weekend and I was very depressed about leaving Orlando so I did not eat as much as I could have!

Here is a picture of EE's plate:

Also, I wanted to mention that this was the first restaurant of our trip where I thought we received questionable service. It could have been because I was bitter about my vacation being over, but I thought our server wasn't the best. It took forever to get coffee, our 2nd skillet, and - most frustrating of all - the check! Me and EE walked all around the lobby and leisurely explored the gift shop when we were done eating and the boys still hadn't gotten the check from the server! Oh well, I guess I was meant to stay at Disney for longer!

Before I go I leave you with the last picture of our trip - our 2nd Skillet:

We remembered to take a picture this time!! Although I did not partake in the eating of the 2nd skillet it looked very tempting!

Well, this concludes my Flavors of Fun tour! I hope you have enjoyed reading about our eating adventures and looking at all of our photos. Thank you to EE and PP for taking all of the pictures and for their extraordinary hospitality while we were in Orlando! And for those of you that are curious, me and JE do not eat that much in our day to day lives, BUT we could if we needed to :thumbsup2

I can't believe you are all done posting our dining experiences. It was so fabulous!!

I totally agree with you the server at Whispering Canyon was slow slow slow! I couldn't believe how long it took to get the check and my coffee!! I'm a coffee addict so it's important that I get my coffee right away :rotfl:

The biscuits and gravy at Whispering Canyon is probably in the top five best I've ever had and I'm very very picky about my gravy!!! I also love the sausage and potatoes in the skillet they are just so super delicious.

It was a great tri and I keep telling SS and JE that they have to stay for longer or move here so we can do fun stuff all the time!!!

Ok, I probably should have done this while I was posting, but I just went back and read all of my posts and I totally spelled Greece wrong during my Food and Wine day post! How embarrassing!! Please forgive me! That's what happens when I post while drinking wine ;)

Thanks for a great report and some wonderful pics. It sure looks like y'all had a great time. Thanks for sharing it!

Absolutely loved your posts. I am planning out our March trip and we want to try out new places to eat. Thank you for the post on Pecos Bills, my whole family (3 out of 4 of us are picky eaters) will go crazy over this menu. Plus Whispering Willows Cafe is one of our must dos every time we go, we love the dinner skillet. We had the breakfast there as well and it was awesome, it is hit or miss about the service though, but it is still really great food none the less. One last thing, we will definately will have to make a stop at the Goofy Candy Co., my family are huge fans of both rice krispy treats and chocolate covered pretzels....and to be able to top them with whatever you want :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2
