dtuleya (Denise),
I am so excited!!! Andy, Flat Stanley, and I just got home from a field trip...here are the details.
For folks who follow NASCAR this is old news, but this Sunday is the Golden Corral 500 and many of the drivers are already in town. We were given last minutes tickets to attend a media luncheon (nope, neither of us is in media...). The keynote speaker was Tony Stewart (DH's favorite driver) and we'd hoped to get an opportunity to get autographs and/or pixs. Well, the food was shi-shi, the Q&A was great, but Tony was wisked in and out. Shucks...on to plan B.
After work, we headed to the McDonough Home Depot, where Tony was making an autograph appearance from 6-8pm. When we arrived (5:45), the line was down and around to the back of the store. We got our wristband, got in line and started making friends with the folks around us.... After almost 2hrs (in 3-inch heels)...we were entering the store. One of the last group to be admitted. Then, before we knew it...we were at the front of the line. We'd already been told...one autographed item per person...pixs are fine, but no posing. With the hundreds of folks that he saw, this seemed reasonable, but I had to ask. "Excuse me, may I prop Flat Stanley up and take your pix while you sign?" Imagine my surprise when Tony stopped writing, looked up and smiled. As I started to launch into my "Flat Stanley is a school project...." speech, Tony spoke..."No problem, I'll be glad to hold him. We get alot of Flat Stanleys." He knew about Flat Stanley and was happy to help out!!! WOW! Of all the responses, this was not one that I had even considered. Not only did he hold FS (by the hands, no less), but he stopped signing autographs and smiled into the camera. I think that I'm one of the few folks who didn't have to take a picture while he was signing (ie...getting the top of his head
).
So, Denise, please let your son know that while we'll still get a picture of FS with the ferrets, we DID get a picture of FS with Tony Stewart. We also got a picture of FS with a Busch driver AND a picture of FS "leaning" against the window net of Tony's car. How cool!!!! Not just for FS, but for my hubby and me too! Denise, thank you for letting us host FS. He's welcome to visit anytime.
