During spring break my 2nd grader had to do a project with "Flat Stanley". I was upset about the whole thing as we were leaving for Disney the day after spring break started. However, being the good mom I try to be, we spent a day at Epcot going through the countries. I bought Stanley a passport to be stamped and written in, addressed to Stanley (not Kelsey, much to her disappointment) and we then took a picture of Kelsey, Flat Stanley and a cast member dressed in their countries clothing. I actually ended up enjoying the whole thing. I was absolutely amazed at how many other Disney goers addressed the paper doll by name! We are in SC but people from NY to CA recognized Flat Stanley :rotfl: . So we had to spend 4 more days doing something with the doll and finally finished the project on the last day of spring break. Out of 105, she received a grade of 105 :cheer2: . Does anyone else remember doing this project with their 2nd grader? Started out hating the idea, but really loved the project in the end.

ps; Good Morning America's weatherman held up a Flat Stanley doll one day last week and I just rolled. That Stanley dude sure does get around! :rotfl2:

Yes We did it with both our kids they are almost 17 and 19 now but I think we did it around the 3rd or 4th grade.

My Dh is a firefighter and has kids come to the station all the time with the flat Stanley to take thier pic with the guys and on the trucks :)

You should see the one of him in the White House. There's a picture of Condi Rice reprimanding Flat Stanley that's really funny! I think you can still find it on the whitehouse.gov website.

I do this with my second graders and it is always a highlight of the year. So far my favorite has been the Stanley that went on vacation to NYC and came home with a big blue smooch on his cheek. He had gone backstage of a performance from the "Blue Men" show (sorry, I don't know what the real name is). It's always fun to read about Stanley's adventures.

When I taught kindergarten I did the same project only with the Gingerbread Man.

OMG pearlieq! I just went to the whitehouse.gov website and looked at the Flat Stanley pictures. Seeing FS with Rice, Fleischer, Rove and President Bush is just a riot---they were good sports!

We did a Flat Stanley project but it was sent to us from CA. and we live in Maine. It was fun because we had a Disney trip planned but did not tell the kids so the (dressed) drew FS in winter cloths and the poor flat guy ended up in FL LOL

I ended up doing a whole scrapbppk on him and his MAine and Florida trips.

I think I got more into it then the kids, At one point I had the Portland Maine Fire Boat guys holding him on the fire boats LOL

DD did hers in 1st grade. We took Stanley on the Freedom Trail, to the Franklin Park Zoo, to one of the Harbor Islands and on a bike ride at local state park. And everyone knew him by name :)

I love Flat Stanley...

DD6 met a girl on our DCL cruise and exchanged addresses. She is also 6 and both are in first grade. She lives in PA and she sent Flat Stanley over to us in CA. We took Flat Stanley to Disneyland and Minnie Mouse held Flat Stanley up for the cameras. Within 4 days, Flat Stanley was home with pictures from DL and sticker souveniers from guest services.

That week I bought the book Flat Stanley and read it together with my kids during bedtime!

Flat Stanley was sent to us when we lived in California. We had just sold our house to move to Florida, so taking him around SoCal was like saying goodbye to the old neighborhood. When were in front of the Chinese Theater in Hollywood people were shouting out his name! Flat Stanley sure is famous!

We actually laminated Stanley, mounted him on foam core with double-sided tape, then taped a stick to the back of the foam core. It made taking pics easier. After his visit it was easy to peel him off the foam core and mail him back home.

When we did FLat Stanley, we shipped him to MN to spend time with Grandpa. He got some fun shots of Stanley riding a snowmobile, ice fishing and eventually getting arrested. Apparently Stanley needs a juvinile chaperone. :teeth:

Btw, Grandpa was a deputy Sheriff, with an odd sense of humor.

Oh my gosh that's funny!! :rotfl:

My niece sent her flat Stanley to our cousin who's a dentist in Alaska and he was also taking a plane trip somewhere. He did some dental work on Stanley and took pictures of Stanley riding in his own seat on the plane. What a fun project for everyone!

I hope our granddaughter gets to do one someday. :goodvibes

We sent Flat Stanley to my SIL who is a third grade teacher in a historic part of WV. So of course she knew exactly what to write to make a great report. Flat Stanley got to visit where George Washington slept! among other things. What a great project!

If you Google-Image Flat Stanley, there are some hilarious results! My favorites were Stanley riding a llama, and scuba diving.

I thought Flat Stanley was kind of like a chain letter at least that is how he is treated in our school. Each child tries to see how many places he can be sent and receives a letter back from each of his visits.

It was actually funny, he went to one of the major hospitals in the country and we got pictures back with him getting"care" from various doctors and nurses. He even got hit with the defribulator! One of my collegues joked he got better care in the hospital than her father.

When my grandchildren did a Flat Stanley project he spent a week with me and my husband. I'm a teacher so he came to school with me and participated in all the activities my kindergartners did that day. We have terrific pictures of Flat Stanley in gym class, computer class and literacy centers with my class. It's a great project and I loved helping them with it. :flower:

I took my nephew's Flat Stanley to Las Vegas once. I took tons of pictures of him, and made a story book about Flat Stanley's trip for his class, and brought back a small gift for every kid in his class. I took pictures of Flat Stanley at the top of the Eifle Tower at the Paris hotel, on the Gondola at the Venetian, on the airplane, with a wax figure of President Bush at Madame Tussards, and with the bride at my cousin's wedding. (We were also naughty adults and took pictures of Flat Stanley in compromising positions, but we didn't show those to the kids).

We had a great time with Flat Stanley at Walt Disney World last October!! He made all the rounds and had his picture taken with all sorts of characters! :) :)

We just did that about a month ago with my second grader. Flat Stanley went to Chicago and spent a few days with a friend who is a firefighter and paramedic. Stanley went out on missions and rescues with a bunch of firefighters , took tons of pictures , rode the ambulance and the firetruck , and had a blast. He came back with all the badges he had earned.

When my kids did Flat Stanley my parents took him on vacation with them....we have Flat Stanley pictures at the Detroit Tiger's spring training.....with an Elvis impersonator in Biloxi etc...
I got a giggle out of Clint Eastwood bringing his DD's Flat Stanley to the Oscar's :)

Our kids have all done this too. When the twins were doing it, Grandma and Grandpa were in Italy, so he got some stuff from there. Their uncle was in Scottland and he got some stuff from there, too. They had a blast!

I love the Sheriff arresting him, that has to be a one and only! I can imagine the teachers face when she saw that.
