Flash pictures in rides - isnt this a no-no?

I think it's annoying too, but we have made a mistake and accidently forgot to take our flash off on the peter pan ride! Once my DH took the picture and it flashed BRIGHT.. we were like "oops..crap".and said "sorry" really loud LOL.. so now every time we look at our pictures and see the very clear pic we always laugh and say "no flash photography".. We felt really bad about it so to me, having someone take flash pictures in a dark ride is VERY disrespectful to the other riders... Just my .02

On some rides you can't use flash, well, let's face it, most all of them, but some rides don't. For example, it's a common misconception that you can't on POTC where they never say anything about flash photography, at least not on the old version. IASW also doesn't prohibit it and neither does the great movie ride (that one I may be wrong about, but I'm pretty sure not).

Someone was taking flash pictures when we rode Spaceship Earth last weekend. It was a bit annoying to me. I just didn't want to see the "guts" of the ride that showed up with each flash.

Even film won't be able to get that. It needs long enough exposure and the seat is moving, so that'll never happen. I tried it with ISO 3200 on my dSLR, and it's still yield too slow of a shutter speed. Maybe one day when ISO 6400 is available.

You'll need a fast lens (f/2.8 minimum) very good camera with a clean ISO 3200 (then you boost it another stop by UNDERexposing it one-stop), re-boost the exposure level using photoshop, clean the ISO noise with programs / plugins such as Noise Ninja or Noiseware. Then you'll get a clear beautiful picture at the top of Spaceship Earth.

I find people who take flash pictures in rides irritating, but the only time it annoyed me enough to actually say something to them was once when we were on Small World and the woman ahead of us was turning around and taking pictures of what was behind her -- meaning she was blinding us with her flash. After about the fourth picture I asked her please not to do that as it was flashing right in our faces. She seemed embarassed as if it hadn't occurred to her...

I don't know about other people's, but my picture of earth came out really well when I took it without flash. oh well, I guess I'm just cool like that!

The highest sensitivity film available on the market is ISO 1600 (people tend to use ISO 100 to 400 for regular uses) and it's very grainy. As grainy as a Canon 30D ISO 800.

Now imagine that even using digital at ISO 3200 (equivalent to film's ISO 4000) I still can't get a great picture in there. Therefore I have to use ISO 6400 or use flash (and not get the effect what your eyes actually seeing in there plus you're annoying other people).

WOW!! Ok, got it now! I've never even tried doing it--I always use 400 because I don't try to take pictures of fireworks or anything fancy. Thanks so much for explaining!!!

I was thinking of taking my digital camera on the RnRc so I can take a quick picture of myself before launch. I don't think that would annoy anybody. I know of the ride photo at the end of RnRc but call me cheap if you want....I think $16.95 for a 5x7 is a bit too much. Haven't decided whether to opt for the ride photo or just take one myself. ANYWAY..... Like most in this thread, I want to enjoy the attractions and not annoy others that come for the same enjoyment with flash photography every other minute. Now thats annoying!!!!!

If you forget and just take one picture, no biggie. Heck, if you just take one picture - I'll probably just assume you accidently left the flast on and not let it bother me.

It's the ones that document every 2 inches of movement along the ride track that bother me - and even then only if it's in a dark ride or the flash is in my face.

My sister got "yelled at" for using the flash on the old POTC...a CM came on the loud speaker and said something to effect of "Use of flash photography on this ride is prohibited so that all guests can enjoy the attraction."

ISAW is not really in the dark so you are allowed to use flash there.

I've never tried it on TGMR but I assume that for the "dark parts" it's not allowed.

Not to hi-jack the post but does anyone know if there such a camera with a type of "night vision" that you can use to take pics on these kinds of rides without a flash but get good reults? Feel free to PM me with this info...

No PM necessary.

For video camera, most video cameras have 'night vision' but everything will look 'green'.

For digital still picture camera, the cheapest you can get and still look good at ISO 1600 is Fuji F10 (I own one, and it's pretty good for a point and shoot ISO 1600). For dSLR, the cheapest one with a good ISO 3200 is Pentax ist*DL ideally coupled with lens with the aperture f/2.8 or wider (say f/1.8 or f/1.4).

I personally use Canon 30D with max ISO of 3200 and can be tweaked to ISO 6400 and uses Canon 17-55 f/2.8 IS. Kinda pricey but it's worth every dime in my book.
