I know it's on the plan, and I know I can get a meal, a drink and a dessert. But most of the meals only come with baked beans and cornbread, not fries or cole slaw. I believe the plan used to allow you to get a side of fries or onion rings using a snack credit and that now this is no longer an option.

I guess I just find it hard to believe that an entire credit that could be used on a $50 TS meal elsewhere can only buy you a pork sandwich, beans, a Coke and a frozen lemon. Has anyone had success in getting more, other items, and different combinations for their 1 credit at FTB?

:confused3

They wouldn't let DH substitute anything else for the baked beans in November. It doesn't matter if it's the regular DDP or the DxDDP, a meal credit used at a CS restaurant is the same, you get the entree, dessert, and drink.

It'd be nice if they allowed some picking & choosing, but that's not the way they do their platter-meals, darn the luck. The BBQ ribs or the 1/2 rotis. chicken combo is a more expensive alternative to the sandwich options if you're looking to get a better value for your DxDDP credit. Those two meals are more in the $15 range for the meal. But last year they did not allow any substitutions: you got the ribs (or chicken), corn muffin, beans & drink; we did get the frozen lemonade for dessert because we prefer it, although key lime pie was also an option. DD asked about subbing cole slaw for the beans because she absolutely will not eat beans, but the answer was sorry, No subs on the platters.

I think that's one of the problems for us with using the DxDDP -- while you can use it on your choice of counter service or table service, if you're looking for maximum value you'll want to use it at table service only...there's just no way you'll get it up to anywhere close to a table service value, even choosing the most expensive counter service meals...for us, that just ends up being just too much food & too much time to do 3x table service a day.

Thanks for your replies. I didn't think there were any substitutions, and it's unfortunate. We like FTBBQ and would totally eat there, but using the credit on a TS is the better value.

It's a shame Disney doesn't modify how this works because in the end they are the ones losing money. We are willing to lose 1 credit on a CS worth $15 but just because they won't compromise we'll use it on a $50 meal instead.

Oh, well, there are worse problems to have in the world. ;)

The last two times (during free dining) we were allowed to swap the beans for coleslaw and also the last time were able to get a bag of grapes when we just asked them not to out either beans or coleslaw on as it would just be wasted.

It could have been because we were foreign, but they at least changed the beans/coleslaw on multiple occasions, and grapes twice. HTH.
