Flag Family @ WL

Soon to arrive for our first visit to VWL. Are there any tips for how to have the best chance at being selected as a flag family? Also, is there an age limit for children on the roof? Thanks for the help!

Sorry, no tips (well, other than check first thing when you arrive). I have never been chosen. Our resident expert, JimmyTammy is there now, fresh off the roof. He hangs on the VWL Groupie boards and will probably check this thread if he sees it. He has much greater luck than I do!

As far as I'm aware, you don't get 'chosen' as such. When we stayed at VWL in April, we asked at check-in if it would be possible and were lucky that there was one opening during our stay. I am not sure about minimum age but they had no problem with our 5-year old son being up there. They are very clear about the safety issues (a few trip hazards up ont he roof) but, ultimately, it is up to you to watch the kids and make sure they're not doing anything dangerous.

I do not think there are any tips or tricks to it. The best thing to do is check immediately upon check-in. We've tried multiple times and were finally able to do it once. It is a wonderful experience, the views are great!

I think it is a "luck of the draw" situation so it just matters on who has already been signed up before you during your stay and are there any openings during your stay.

Also know there is a limit of six people in your party that can go up.

We've been to WL and VWL many times, and have yet to be able to be flag family. I figure the internet pretty much killed that "secret" before we had a chance to enjoy it.

Of course, I never would have known about it if it weren't for the internet!

Last December, I asked about it at check in....there were several days available.

Unfortunately the older gentlemen which usually does this had the day off....his replacement for the day was not very good... the view was nice....but it certainly was not the memorable experience I have heard described by others.

That is true, however, there were 7 in our party and Stan very kindly agreed to let us all participate
