What constitutes Florida residency? My husband and I were considering renting a condo year round a few hours south of WDW, as my son is considering looking for employement in Hospitality there after college (in a few months), and we will be using it as often as possible. If we were to do so, would that constitute residency? And if so, what proof of residency is needed to Disney/DVC for AP's, etc.?

TIA

I am always asked for my Florida driver's license, which I have since I reside in Florida full time. I don't know what other proof of residency they would accept, but I know they want a photo id.

DVC does not give you FL residency (which is what your title said, but it didn't sound like that was your question).

Disney's rules on tickets:
Florida Resident Tickets:
Proof of a Florida residential address is required. For each adult ticket purchased, you may provide any of the following:

Valid Florida driver's license
Valid Florida state-issued ID card (must have a Florida address)
Valid Florida-based military ID
The persons who will use the Florida Resident adult tickets must be present at the time of ticket pick up. If you do not have one of the IDs indicated above, then for each adult ticket purchased you must provide one of the following dated within the last two months and evidencing a Florida residential address together with a corresponding picture ID (passport, driver's license, state identification card):

Monthly mortgage statement
Florida vehicle registration or title
Homeowner's insurance policy or bill
Automobile insurance policy or bill
Utility bill
Mail from a financial institution, including checking, savings, or investment account statement
Mail from a Federal, State, County or City government agency
Bills can be no more than two (2) months old. PO Boxes are not accepted as proof of residency. Current bills printed from electronic versions are acceptable, though photocopies and fax copies are not.

You used to be able to hold a FL ID/license and one from another state, if you were a part-time resident, but that is no longer true - it is one or the other.

Did you report to the IRS that Florida is where you reside? Florida drivers license, credit bureaus, DVC all show your Florida address?

You can get into a mess if you try to play the system.

There's no need to "play the system" and what WDW accepts as Florida residency isn't the same as what the state mandates for Florida residency. I used my bank statement last May and Michigan Driver's license and had no problem getting my Florida pass.

WDW rules:

For Part-Year Residents the following original documents are acceptable.

Note that fax and photocopies are not acceptable, that bills and mail cannot be more than two months old, that PO Box addresses are not allowed, and items related to Time Shares are not permitted.
Must have a driver's license or state photo ID card from another state, or a non-US Passport and at least one of the following items which does show a Florida address:
* Monthly mortgage statement
* Current homeowner's insurance policy or bill, current automobile registration, insurance policy or bill or current utility bill (Power/Phone/Cable/Water).
* Statement from a financial institution showing checking, savings or investment information or mail from a Federal or Florida State, County or City government agency.

Effective August 20, 2010 Proof of Rent, Mortgage or Ownership such as a Deed, mortgage payment booklet or residential lease are no longer allowed.

It does not specifically allow credit card statements, so this may be a vague area.

Hi. Just want to have a better understanding of this. So if I open up a checking or savings account with a bank in FL, that would count as a part-time FL resident in the eyes of WDW? That seems very easy if the answer is yes. Thanks.

Provided you are having it mailed to your FL address. But I don't think that's what you meant. You have to have an address in Florida.

jodifla got her info from Cheshire Figment's post on residency; I took mine from the Disney site today, so that's why they are a little different - but I think the items listed are the same.

Yes, as long as the bank account shows you have a FL address, it will be accepted as proof of part-time residency.

Yes, that was from Chesfire Figment. I should have linked. Thanks for pointing it out! Should give credit to where credit is due.

We are considering renting a condo year round, for use when we are there and for my son to live in if he winds up working in FLA. "Playing the system" isn't something that's even entered our minds. We own DVC for 12 years as NY residents, now we are considering renting an apartment there, and hopefully being snowbirds as often as possible until retirement age, and having it available for our kids, as stated.

Thereby, I doubt we will go for Florida drivier's license's, at least not right away, but the bills, the lease, and the bank accounts will be in our names with our Florida address. I see this is exceptable by Disney for Florida residency.

Thanks for answering my question :)
