This is slightly budget related.

I am thinking of getting my real estate license to earn a little extra income, mostly as a second job. I am not expecting to make a fortune, but every little bit counts. I know it is hard work and I will probably work harder than the pay is worth.

My question to those who already have their license is, Do I need to take a course or are the prep books from the library and book store sufficient? I am pretty self motivated and don't need a lot of instruction, if that makes a difference. Any advice would be helpful. Last time I looked into it, a course was not required you only had to pay the exam fee.

Not an agent in FL nor do I currently have my license. I will say however I'm glad I took the course live. It can also be an expensive second job. You'll need your insurance, monthly fees to the local board, etc. It can all add up and those fees need to be paid no matter if you've sold anything or not.

I would also contact several agencies and decide which broker you would like to work for before paying to take a class.

As for the exam, it wasn't as tough as I'd expected, but several in my class took it before I did and most of them failed.

Good luck with your decision.
