Hey guys,
I have a quick question about Forbidden Journey.
I don't want any details about the ride or anything as such because I'm trying hard to leave the whole WWoHP as a surprise as I'm a major fan!

My question is: How "bad" would you say FJ is compared to spiderman, the Simpsons or back to the future. (which is it most like)

We are travelling with my mum who HATED Back to the future so much that she cried and I'm trying to make sure that we wouldn't ruin her day by taking her on FJ.
She also hates heights

TIA :goodvibes

Before you read further, I won't mention any story elements of the ride as I assume that's what you don't want to know. However, I will discuss the ride mechanics itself. Stop here if you don't want to know even this.

------------------

I'd say it is most like Spiderman in your list--Spiderman on steroids. You are going through a mixture of dark-ride elements (actual sets) and simulation segments (looking at a screen), much like Spiderman. The simulation elements are not 3-D (like in Spiderman), however.

The ride vehicle is a 4-person "bench" where all are seated side-by-side and restrained by an over-the-shoulder harness, much like a thrill coaster like Hulk or Dragon Challenge. However, the bench is on the end of a robotic arm that is mounted on a slow-moving track. The robotic arm swings you smoothly in all directions and positions, from flat on your back to even looking almost straight down. It does not go upside down, though the flat-on-your-back part almost feels like it.

Assuming your concerned about her getting sick, most people have issues with the simulation parts of the ride and not the robotic arm movement. To minimize the chance of getting sick, she could take anti-motion sickness meds (like bonine), ride on an empty stomach, close her eyes during these segments only, or any combination of the above. I won't lie to you, this ride gets quite a few people sick, so if she is sensitive it might be best for her to skip it on that point alone. I recommend someone in your party go first and judge her tolerance for it--you'll know her best.

As for heights, I don't know that I've ever noticed any height issues. You might feel high during the simulation parts, but I never noticed it going through the sets. I bet you're never more than 10-15 feet high, and you're very secure in your seat.

I think my mom can handle it and my mom hated BTTF and Simpsons. She could handle Soarin and kinda spinderman. But I really thinking my mom would love FJ and thats saying a lot.

She might need to close her eyes for a few parts but all the "Real" stuff in the ride causes no feeling of motion sickness.... but if you see a screen coming up close your eyes!

Yeah the story is what I don't want to know!!
From the description of the ride, she won't go on it. She rarely goes on rides at all (never been on The Mummy) I think she would panic at the over-the-shoulder harness and think that because of that, she'll be going upside down.

Thanks for your help!

Its Awesome. Sort of like spider man but wayyy better. Shouldnt be a problem. Its a different kind of a ride for sure. Cant really compare it to Hulk or any of those High speed ones. Still AWESOME

Have you been to Disney?

It is Soarin' + Dinosaur + Star Tours.

I'm glad someone asked the question, (although I think I need to start a thread for a general 'which rides are thrill rides'' question), but from the description, I think my wife will be okay on this. She will not do any of the coasters at WDW, but loves Soarin' and Test Track. So if you were going to place FJ on a scale between the motion of Soarin' and say EE or RnR, how would you rate it?

Looks like ducky love gave me the answer I need. Thanks.

The actual motion is very smooth, not jerky. However, the vehicles are constantly in motion. You are continuously being moved up and down and left and right and forward and backward. The angle of your seat is also continuously changing so you are looking up and then suddenly looking down, etc.
