We will be heading to the parks this Sunday for a few days. After thinking more about the FJ ride, I don't think I want to do the ride (or even the castle part). I just think my claustrophobia will hit me being in there with tons of people in a closed castle....I know...crazy...

Anyway, I know my DD will want to go through the castle with rest of my family. So my question is...does anyone know if there is a way to go right to the child swap area and wait for your party if my DD decideds not to ride (due to fear of the ride itself) but rest of family is riding? I am thinking they probably won't let me since I am not with a child at the time, or maybe can't get to it without going through castle?

I guess my concern is what if they wait all that time and go through the castle and just as they are getting on ride my DD chickens out...what would happen. Any input would be appreciated.

The FJ ride gift shop doors are not marked, but are located down futher from the FJ entrance, across from the small roller coaster far end (can't remember the name, sorry!). If you go through those doors, as people are exiting the ride and gift shop...walk over to one of the TM"s who is to the left of the exit inside the gift shop (around the aisles to the left). People will be coming out the doors, down the stairs from the ride to exit through the gift shop.
Explain your circumstance and tell him you'd like to wait in the child swap for your child to come through the castle in case she decides not to ride so you can sit with her.
I had to run a sick child out, down the ride exit stairs after we went through the castle (she was not sick from the ride, she became ill). I went backward up the stairs with her to the child swap area once she felt better and got some fresh air. Then my husband waited with her in the child swap while I went on the ride.
The employees were very kind and accomodating.

The way the lines work right now it seems 90% of your wait is in the Greenhouse outside so maybe it won't be that bad for you :) Also, the line through the castle has pretty tall walls so your not very confined and there are exits everywhere incase you need them.

But as the above poster said just let the TM know what is going on and they should be able to direct you to the child swap area so you don't have to go through the castle.

You can access the child swap room pretty easily by using the single rider line. After you've walked through the Defense Against the Dark Arts room you will come to an area where people are testing if they fit in the rides seats. Tell any of the team members you'd like to wait in the Child Swap area for your party and they should usher you through the side door there where the room is just a short walk down the hall. Anytime we rode the ride, the single rider line was never backed up before this area and you should be able to walk straight to the room. Plus you still get to take a nice quick walk through the castle without a hoard of people around you.

I expect the worst that would happen if DD chickens out is that you could either explain that a member of your party is already waiting in the child swap room just for this event, or one of your party will need to accompany her to the room, and can then be the swap person when the rest of the party returns and can go right to the front of the single rider line.

I'm not sure how serious your claustrophobia is, or if it's more of a "concern," but I really think if you pass through the single rider line you're not likely to ever feel boxed in, and you get to still see what all the fuss is about.

The child swap room is probably a smaller room than the castle areas. I'm not sure what the best solution for you is here with regard to your claustrophobia.

I would suggest that you let someone else do child swap with her that will be going through the queue.
