IMO the fixed week IS the way to go as long as the number of points fits. Even if one doesn't plan to use it, better to buy a fixed week as long as it's around the number of points wanted. IMO giving up the option of having multiple smaller contracts grouped together would be a small price to pay.
Week 1 will always be the first Sunday of the Calendar year (For DVC) and in any year where it would not be, an extra week is thrown in as week zero or 53 to move the week one back to the first of that day of the year.
There are strategies to benefit for reallocations or season changes where the points are lower than the total for a given fixed week. They're pretty obvious so no reason to go into them here.
I doubt it'll work well financially but it may lessen the impact overall. This would seem to be one of those situations where value and cost might diverge. If that's what you want and this is a way to get it in a controlled fashion, it could be appropriate for the right person. However, I don't feel one will buy week 51 or 52 retail and make money by renting it out long term.It is actually about 90 -110 points more than I would have purchased without the option; however for resale later, I believe owning week 52 will make up the difference. I feel a plan of renting every other year out, (or points), will work in my favor.
My points are loaded!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Correct. If you don't want to use your fixed week exactly as pre-scheduled, you need to opt out of it and re-book using the points. That puts you in the same booking window as all other PVB owners for the re-booking, and you'd be competing with everyone else to book those nights again.I wonder what happens if you want to check out on the 1st and only use part of your fixed week? I'm guessing you have to either use the whole week or convert to points?
I can but it depends on the week you bought. That seems like a pretty sweet deal. I can't see a downside.![]()
Purchasing a VGF fixed week has been my best DVC decision. I get the villa, view and week I want without having to worry about competition.
If fixed weeks were offered at the other resorts, then I would only own fixed week contracts. Our travel schedule is quite regular and, to me, the 10% extra is worth hassle free booking.

Don't know what to think.Just told by Guide that my Aug UY would not get the 2014 points, if I bought a December Fixed Week. Then, he said I would have no points until December (or, it seemed like that is what he said; I was still flabbergasted from the "no 2014 points" comment when he said that.) I am wondering if he is just not that savvy about Fixed Weeks or I am totally wrong on how DVC handles FW. I have another timeshare FW with a point system and I thought there had to be a 12-month window for FW and 2015 would not provide that window for PVB purchases. Just completely confused over this, since I understood the premium you pay in points (over what the first-come, first-serve reservations would be) was the price paid for a FW, not ignoring that I am buying during my 2014 UY and the points are related to that function in a point-based system.
Totally confused!
PVB opens April 1, 2015. As a fixed-week owner, you soon will be receiving a booking confirmation for your December 2015 reservation. You would not receive 2014 points for a week that was unavailable for booking.
Based on my previous experience with VGF, the resort opening date and fixed week determined the first booking and allocation of points.
Thanks for the response. Waiting for Quality Assurance to answer my questions!
ETA: Just got off phone w QA. Guide was incorrect. I do get the 2014 Aug uy points. YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is assuming you will be able to resell it as a fixed week. I haven't heard that confirmed anywhere. Do we know that it can be resold the same way?

There has already been at least one VGF Fixed Week Resale that remained as a fixed week upon transfer to the new owner.
Is there a deadline to tell DVC that you are opting out of your fixed week reservation?
Can you keep your fixed week reservation and then wait until just a few days before the fixed week begins to opt out?
If that's the case, how can they take away any benefits from resale buyers? Those too, were part of the original deed if that's the argument.![]()

It works the same as regular reservations. Cancel more than 30 days before check-in date to avoid holding account. Is there a deadline to tell DVC that you are opting out of your fixed week reservation?
