Five Years is a long time to wait…Day 8 & 9 Plans!

Wow, what a busy weekend! I thought that I would have time this weekend to sit down and do a bit of planning on our ADR's but in reality it wasn't until tonight that I was able to even think about it. :headache: Lots of game nights this weekend and DS had his first basketball game of the season, which they won, 32-9. Our game night was a good friend's house who took her kids (same ages as mine) to Disney World last year. She mentioned that we need to plan a trip together in 3-4 years. They tour commando as well.:cool2:

So planning time has been scarce, but nothing can rain on my Disney parade!:dance3: Since my last update we have decided to update to a garden view room instead of a standard. Our last view at the WL was of the service area, and while any view at DW is better than being at home, we want a better view this time.

When I think about 8 days at DW, I think at first that is PLENTY of time to do the majority of the things I want to do, of course I mean my family wants to do:rolleyes1, but in reality there are so many restaurants that 8 days just will not cut it! I think we need to fit in another trip:idea:... yeah, try explaining that one to DH, or the boss. There is just so much to see and do and so much to eat, who can do it in a week?

Right now we have the DDP booked, and I have been trying to figure out if we want to upgrade to the DxDDP. After looking at everything I think that although we most likely will go over our TS credits, it is a much better strategy to pay OOP for a few of the lower priced meals.

Our ADR wishlist so far:
TREX (DH has wanted to go since 2009, when it wasn't on the DDP)
Crystal Palace (we love it)
SciFi or 50's Prime Time Cafe
CRT (Possibly, I don't know. Is it worth the 2credits? We will be doing the BBB for DD, so it would be a nice way to celebrate it. Or would BOG do just as well, for less credits? I would love to hear advice!!!!!!)
Tusker House breakfast

I am trying to narrow down where DH and I want to go for our alone dinner.

Sorry it took so long for me to get back here (family issues and date with my hubby this weekend).

Your daughter is adorable; I love the picture of her in the snow. I enjoyed the intros.

Yay for booking. We went in August at the same time you are looking at last year. It was hot, and we had more rain than usual, but the lines weren't too bad.

I am with you...I did NOT like Brown Derby at all. For a signature restaurant for you and hubby, I highly recommend Yachstman Steakhouse...right at your resort. It is fabulous (just ask Brenda).

We were not a fan of 50's Prime Time two years ago and probably won't go back, but a lot of people love it. We are doing Mama Melrose this year, but we would go back to Sci Fi again with no problem.

I am a bit worried about grumpy DH in the heat an humidity... but we both enjoy going back to the resort mid-day so I think we will add that in on all days.

:scared: I haven't really read a ton of good about the Brown Derby, the only good thing was the semi-magical moment that an awkward CM tried to give DS.:confused3 And he wasn't even a part of BD, just walked by and saw DS and DD dancing....

I think we will be doing SciFi, although DH likes the concept of 50's Prime Time, I think at that point in the trip (and the day) that a good burger and milkshake will do us good.;)

I hope that your brother is doing better! I have been keeping your family in my prayers!

Is it August yet? or even time to book my ADR's? How I am going to make it to August without spilling the beans is beyond me. And my kiddos have big ears and like to listen to DH and I talk at night after they go to bed...:listen: Sneaky sneaky!

This week I started classes and have been going through a bit of a TR withdraw, I need my Disney fix! After being out of school for 12 years I am a bit out of practice with lots of reading and assignments. I have got a good 4 years or more of it coming so I need to suck it up! The kiddos are enjoying Mommy having homework now.:p

Well the "homework" that I enjoy is my Disney planning of course. So this week I went back and forth, up and down, sideways and diagonally trying to narrow down our ADR's. Since we are staying club level breakfast isn't an issue, especially since DS and and I aren't large breakfast eaters. But, even with removing most breakfasts from our plan (we are keeping CP and I would love to do 1900 Park Fare since we had such a great experience with the Mad Hatter on our last trip here) we still are a couple TS short and even more if I plan on doing CRT and Yachtsman. I am weighing the cost of paying OOP vs. upgrading to DxDDP, but the ease of not worrying about credits and upgrading might win out even if it isn't a cost savings.

Now for the exciting part... we are thinking about adding one (possibly two) on to our trip. My PIN was only good starting 8/17, which is what set our start date, but I don't think that our trip is long enough to fit in everything that DH wants to do. I am looking at possibly flying out on Friday after DH and I get our of work and staying at AoA resort with a room only ressie, no tickets or dining plan. DH made a comment this week that he would like to see La Nuba, and that doesn't really fit in my plans ;), so adding a full day sounds great It would be nice to spend a day exploring the AoA resort, relaxing at the pools and going to DTD.

:yay::yay::woohoo::woohoo: for possibly adding a day (or two) to the trip. I like the idea of exploring the resort and swimming and going to DTD. Mark and I usually skip a park on arrival day and just go to the pool and DTD.

I used to love the dining plan...not a big fan anymore since they took away the appetizer and the tip being included.

Last time we took a day off in the middle of the trip for pool, pirate adventure and DTD and it was a disaster. I think we were all in commando mode and wanted to be in the parks. I think that adding our DTD/off day to the beginning of the trip will make it more relaxing, like we don't know what we are missing yet.::yes:: AoA looks so interesting, almost like a theme park in it's self, and DD has become obsessed with The Little Mermaid, so obviously she will love it!

The first time we went was in 2009, so we never got the benefit of tip being included. :( We were conditioned to only know that we need to pay tip. Which can become very expensive, since you want to get "your money's worth", which you don't think about until you calculate your tip and it is almost as much as a normal meal at home.:faint:

Question of the day from DD while watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse before school this morning:

"Why does Mickey wear pants but no shirt?"

I countered with,

"Why does Donald wear a shirt but no pants?"

Her answer,

"He's a duck!"

Makes perfect sense don't ya think? A talking mouse... needs a shirt and pants.... talking duck... just shirt. LOL Also, is it wrong that I enjoy watching MMCH with my daughter, and probably get as much enjoyment out of it as she is?:rolleyes1

We had to get our Disney fix this weekend by finally going to go see Frozen as a family, and we all loved it! Idina Menzel has such a beautiful voice, wow! DS loved Olof of course and DD loved the princesses/queens. IMO, it doesn't come close to the music of movies like Lion King, Aladdin or the Little Mermaid, but it was great none the less. Plus it gave us our Disney fix to hold us over to DD's birthday surprise, Disney on Ice. I have still yet to see Saving Mr Banks.

Here is DD ready to see Anna and Elsa:

DH says that she is becoming just as obsessed with Disney and Disney World as I am....:teacher: Mommy ain't no fool, I've got plans...I see mother/daughter trips in our future!

Only 28 days until our 180 day mark! I am trying to decide on CRT or not right now. The experience is worth it for us, but is the price and the food? Two TS credits?

Love the response on Mickey and Donald re pants and shirts. Too cute. :)

Smart mommy getting daughter as obsessed as you for mother/daughter trips.

Things have been hectic around the household... but with the -35 temps predicted for tomorrow and school called off (and subsecuently my work as well since I work at a church/school) I have a little time to post an update. And boy do we have updates to post...

First and most excitingly, I added two nights onto our vacation this week.:dance3: I really wanted to spend some time at the AoA and since DH wanted to add La Nuba to our plan, I just couldn't fit it into our 8 days that were planned, with the fact that we really would like to have a semi-early flight home on the 24th, to get some sleep before school begins.... Nothing like cutting it close right?

So we are hoping to fly out on Friday, Aug. 15 on a late afternoon/early evening flight, so that DH doesn't have to take an extra vacation day off of work. Then we will spend Saturday exploring AoA and swimming (no park tickets or DDP) before heading out to DTD for some shopping, T-Rex and La Nuba. :thumbsup2

DH is more of the "You plan it, I will show up" type of Disney fan, but what he is looking forward to the most is the food. We booked the DDP, but after looking at all the restaurants that we want to eat at and planning to pay OOP for a few, I broke it down for DH.:teacher: He stressed that even though it might not be a cost savings for us, he would rather pay for the DxDDP, so that we will have the convenience of having everything prepaid before we get there and not worry about it. And, let's face it, he is letting me have the run of the vacation with no questions ask, so I want to give him the only thing he really ask for. Because I'm a good wife like that. :lmao: Oh yeah, and because I still have things that I haven't sprung on him yet...:teacher: Because I'm a smart wife like that! LOL

The problem comes when I run the numbers and with me unable to relinquish control of booking ADR's and other plans, and now booking the DxDDP, Club Level just doesn't make sense anymore. :sad2: The cost of upgrading to the DxDDP and downgrading to a normal garden view room is almost exactly the same. I would say that I am upset to lose the CL, but it has actually released some stress, since I can book a couple more signature meals without worrying about OOP costs!

I have a rough idea of where we want to eat, so I am hoping to have our ADR wishlist complete tomorrow! That is in between my homework, laundry and breaking up fights over Minecraft between my kids. ;) Gotta love "snow" days!

I'm torn on CL...I just don't think we would use it enough (we're thinking of using it in September for three nights, but I'll probably change my mind).

I can't wait to hear what ADR's you've decided on.

This winter HAS TO GO AWAY!

This winter HAS TO GO AWAY!

I love the "idea" of CL, but with the kid's and ADR's I don't want to feel like we need to get to the lounge to get our "money's worth". If DH and I ever take a trip alone.... CL all the way baby!

ADR's are comin' up!

Tell me about it! This morning I checked the temp. before sending the kids to school and it said feels like -16 and of course DS had left his snow suit at school. Thank the Lord we live one house away from the school! I didn't grow up in "Chicago weather", I am not equipped to deal with it yet! DH thinks I'm nuts!

So I need the lurkers out there :wave2: to help me out! I need lots of advice and opinions! I have made my ADR wishlist, changed it, changed it back, erased it completely, re-did it, then hit undo! Le's just say that I have needed more than one glass of wine to figure out where I will be drinking my wine in DW!

During all of this I should be working on my 10,000 pages of reading for the intense American history class I am taking. Who knew I should have read reviews on the professor before signing up for his class...:rolleyes1:headache:

Then I found this:

 Oh how I wish!

So while living in the arctic aka Chicagoland, and putting off school work, work work, and mommy work. I have be obsessing over my ADR's... oh and reading many many TR and PTR! I'm not gonna lie and say that I feel that bad about it.

Who else can't stop pinning Disney ecards? No? Just me?:p

So on to the good stuff... the stuff I need help with, because DH is useless when it comes to ADR planning... he gets a glazed look on his face and looks like he is imagining counting how many steps it would take him to get to the basement and would I notice if he is gone. He gets my DW obsession... not so much the planning obsession.

Here is "The Plan" as GreatBiscuit would call it... or at least our "Dining Plan". We will be planning on returning to the YC nearly everyday to swim and cool off, or just relax. So we will be putting our PH to good use! Please give me any opinions you have!!!! Yes, I realize that we are planning our vacation around food popcorn::. This isn't even my snack wishlist.... we are food peoople.:thumbsup2

8/16: (no DDP) AoA for breakfast possibly lunch or snacks

Disney on Ice Update

This week I will have to update my signature to make my baby girl 7 years old! As part of her birthday celebration, we took a surprise trip to Disney on Ice: Let's Celebrate! Boy does Disney know how to get their $$$!:scared1: Even though we knew it was coming and we didn't have sticker shock, I don't want to add up what we spent.:rotfl2: Wasn't all on the kiddos, I had to have some nachos with jalapenos, yum!! What is it about stadium nachos... they are my downfall, perhaps it is that you pay and arm and a leg for them so your subconscious lets you believe that they are better than all other nachos. :worship:

Here are a few pics from tonight and my birthday girl!!

Subbing in.:coffee: Love your pics from Disney on Ice. Looks like the kiddos had a fun time. We haven't been to the show for a few years now...not since a snow storm hit and refunds were not given out:sad:.

Great start on ADR. We really like T-Rex so hopefully it will grow on you.
Nothing fancy but we like Restaurantsaurous (sp?) for CS at AK. Hubby is not adventurous with food but we like Coral Reef for Epcot. Also 1900 Park Fare is awesome even DS liked it.

We'll be heading to the World 8/17-23 and staying at AKL. Jealous of your extra days! This is the first time we're not doing DDP since DS and DD are Disney adults now. The only places I know for sure we want is BOG and T-Rex.

:sad2: That is awful! That would definitely sour my opinion! It is amazing how much everything is there. I can barely wrap my mind around it: Popcorn in Souvenir bucket at Disney World: $5.25, Popcorn in Souvenir bag at Disney on Ice: $12!!! Don't even get me started on the $40 stuffed princesses I saw, when the Disney store just had a buy1get1/$1 sale. :crazy2:

Thanks for the reccomendations! I am hoping to have enough points on MyPoints to get a good Landry's gift card and that at least will make me feel better about eating at T-Rex. I know the kids will love it, they LOVE Rainforest Cafe, but it is so expensive and the food is blah! Yet we still make a trip every few months...

I am wondering if we can fit 1900 Park Fare in... heard great things about the soup...

:wave2: Maybe will will see you there.

I am so dreading DS turning 10! I am sure this will be our last trip on the DDP as well. Just will not make sense no matter how much piece of mind go with it!

Sorry I'm a little behind. We were out of town all weekend visiting our son and daughter-in-law and since I took Friday off the office has been nuts for two days. My comments are in red below on your dining.

Epcot restaurant suggestion please!
We love Rose & Crown, Chefs de France and enjoy Coral Reef. We also had a good meal at Teppan Edo.

I don't eat Mexican so we've never eaten at one

8/21: Epcot
Have no clue for breakfast... was thinking about walking to the Boardwalk bakery and using snack credits. Opinions? The Bakery has wonderful options...would definitely do this
Via Napoli Trying for the first time in September with Brenda and her hubby (emmysmommy)

I hope that helps a little.

And I love your DD in her gown for the Disney on Ice show. Very nice. :thumbsup2

Kathy:

Thank you so much for your recommendations! I didn't realize my typo with Chef Mickey, not sure if I meant CR or CM but I changed it. LOL

I feel like I need to enter ADR Rehab. It has become an illness! But with the weather we've had here, I am living in my mind in Disney World in the heat, drinking a Grey Goose Slush.:beach:

I had saw that Mark wasn't feeling well, I hope he is feeling better!

I think you meant Mark as in our son. He is no longer on the pain meds from his surgery unless absolutely necessary. He goes back to the doctor this Wednesday with hopes he can start therapy next Monday.

Can you believe the snow they are predicting again?

I am so sick of the snow. I was off work yesterday (work at a school, so we got President's Day off) but I had to get out in it with the kid's for dentist appointments. I ask the kids if they thought the snow was pretty and both kids yelled in unison "NO!". :lmao: It is pretty on "Frozen" not so much in Chicago anymore. There is a point where it is just annoying! I am so ready for summer... or August 15th!

We are at the 178 day mark!! Not sure what is up with my ticker, but it is depressing that it has me stuck at 183 days!

It has been a very busy week around here. DD's birthday was officially this week and on top of last weekend's Disney on Ice, it was her year to have a friend party. (We only do a friend party every other year, alternating kids, to keep the cost down and make the year special for them.) Plus we had pinewood derby workshops, Valentine's Day outings with friends, an ear piercing experience, a very competitive 3rd grade B-ball game with over zealous parents in the crowd :rolleyes2, 5 chapters of reading for me, dentist appointments all around (no cavities:thumbsup2, but Lorelai needs an extraction:(), a doggie upset stomach, the kids became obsessed with Olympic curling.... OH AND I GOT TO MAKE MY ADR'S!!!:cool1:

Here are a few pics of the week to begin with:

To put a damper on the whole day off yesterday, it had to snow another 8".:rolleyes2 I am so ready for summer to be here. This winter has been LONG!

Now on to the good stuff! I was up on Sunday morning at 4:55am(CST) to boot up the ole laptop and be ready to book my ADR's on MDE. Did it work?:badpc: Does that answer your question? Well I was hopeful that if wasn't working for me that it wasn't working for anyone else either, and at least we would all be in the same boat calling in an hour. So I fell asleep on the couch for an hour, because I was tired!:faint:

When I called at 6:00am, I accidently called 1-800-WDISNEY... :rotfl2: Anyone ever call that number? Let's just say that it doesn't take you to a "Disney" operator. So after quickly hanging up I called 1-407-WDISNEY, and after finally getting to the dining line, I sat on hold... for a long while. Don't know why I didn't call the dining number directly, since it cuts down all of the questions to get to the operator, but what can I say I was TIRED from the week. :surfweb: While sitting on hold I was trying still to get MDE to work, no luck.

Finally I got Bobbi on the phone and I loved her! Wonderful CM and a WDW foodie as well. First stop... CRT, of course. Then can I book BBB with you?::yes:: How about the Pirate Cruise?::yes:: How about _______ at ____?::yes:: Every ADR I ask for, at the time I ask for was... ::yes::. I was in ADR heaven... until we were 2 ADR's away from being done and her computer froze.:badpc: But she worked her magic and pixiedust: soon we were going through all of the cancellation policies and giving out confirmation numbers.

Our only snafu was that since we are doing a split stay with no DDP on the first two days, I had to pre-pay for CRT, and we didn't book the HDDR, because I would have to pay for that as well. Today I was able to go online and get another CRT (lucky lucky) for almost the same time with DxDDP credits and cancel the original one that I paid for. I also booked a 8:30 Cat. 1 seating for the HDDR. :cool1:

Then this morning I was looking at photos online with DD and she saw BOG and just "has" to eat there. I didn't even have it on my wish list... So I checked online and was able to trade a Plaza ADR for a BOG ADR at the same time!pixiedust: Boy was that luck!

Our trip is ADR heavy! My mouth is watering just thinking about it... So here is our 10 day ADR line up!

Breakfast I think we pretty much have covered nearly every character breakfast except 1900 Park Fare, and I wish I could fit it in somewhere!
Akershus
Crystal Palace
Tusker House
CRT
Cape May
Chef Mickey
H&V

Lunch
TREX
Beaches and Cream
Via Napoli

Dinner
Mama Melrose
BOG
Narcoosee's
Chefs De France
San Angel Inn
Yachtsman (DH and I only)
HDDR

We also have 8:00AM BBB appointments (DS said he would rather have colored hair gel than the pirate face paint) for the morning of CRT, a Albatross Treasure Cruise for both, and a Sandcastle Club ressie for our adults only dinner.

I was terrified the entire time I was on the phone that one of the kids would wake up and ask who I was talking to. Not to worry the week had knocked them out as well.

Now to start on our fastpass wishlists... Bobbi did ask me how I was liking MDE and I mentioned that I wasn't happy about FP+ with no park hopping options. She said that they had received a lot of complaints about that. But didn't say that there was any move to change it... I am hoping for some pixiedust: before the trip and that something changes. We are going to park hop nearly every day, and we will work around the limits if we have to, but I hope we don't.
