Five Guys Hamburgers.

I like Fuddruckers too and many other restaurant chain hamburgers. I think they can do a great job, but I don't usually compare Five Guys burgers to restaurant burgers. Where I live, Fuddruckers is more "restaurant" style even though it is counter service. You have your toppings bar and can essentially make it your way.

I think many restaurant burgers do better than the quick places.

So as far as quick burger chains, I think Five Guys does a great job. My burger is always really hot and juicy and the I like the way all the condiments kind of meld in with the juicy burger. I like a sloppy burger.:lovestruc

I generally just rate a burger as a burger. But, since Five Guys doesn't have a drive thru, I would put them in the same category as Fuddrucker's. Either way, I don't think Five Guys is very good. Their burgers are ho hum and I really hate their yucky fries.

Now as far as fast food burgers go, I think Hardee's Angus burgers are the best :-) Cook Out is pretty good too. I used to like Checkers when we lived in FL but we don't have them here.

I love Five Guys. It is one of my weaknesses (along with chic-fil-a and both are in the same parking lot here). I love the little bacon burger with A-1 sauce, tomato, and lettuce, yummmmm. The fries are good too. Although I only get them when I go with someone else since the serving is huge. But I love them with malt vinegar and dipped in ketchup. They also carry Gold Peak Tea so it is like heaven for me.

Mmmmmmmmm I think I might need to go there for lunch soon.

Love Love Love Love Chic-Fil-A!!!!!

Another "not a fan" of Five Guys, here. :confused3

I actually prefer to cook my own burger... not big on ordering them out.

uh oh, five guys has limp fries???

Limp fries are not my favorite and my mom won't eat them at all.

And ridiculously greasy with very little flavor. Blech!

A couple of folks have mentioned the cajun fries. Maybe they are better? :)

I am feeling better now for not having any.

I love Five Guys. The first time I had it not so much. But now. OH MY.

I haven't had the pleasure of and In and Out Burger, probably a good thing, I have heard nothing but rave reviews for them.

I have had a Whataburger, good but no where near Five Guys. Man I am hungry now. NOt a good day to start Weight Watchers. Darn you people. lol

I think their food is pretty good but there are other places I prefer.

That being said, the parking lot is always busy!

I :lovestruc 5 Guys. My burger is a Little burger with A-1, Green peppers, lettuce, grilled onions and mushrooms. DBF and I split fries. We got cajun on the side last time and did half cajun and have regular. Ours is right across the road - right next to Cold Stone. Talk about temptation plaza! lol

what makes it so good???
The burgers are fresh when they go on the grill, not frozen. The fries are made from fresh potatoes and cooked in peanut oil, like at the shore. When you order fries, they put it into the cup and then give you an overflow into the bag, so you're not being short changed.
Oooh, I really had no idea there was online ordering! Crap, I'm a lazy gal..that'll make it more tempting to order from there.
I have our 5 guys in my cell phone. I always call ahead so my order is ready when I get there. I usually tell them to start the fries, too, because they will wait until you arrive to start them so they don't get limp while they wait. Usually, I'm only 5 minutes away when I call. It is our treat after we get our hair cuts.

My favorite is a little cheeseburger with mayo, fried onions and mushrooms. It absolutely melts in your mouth and we have half of the fries gone by the time we get home.

never heard of them, but if their fries are anything like in and outs-BLECH! unless you eat them within the first 5 minutes of getting them they are terrible.

i miss fudruckers and their "burger bar" with all the toppings (also the only place i've ever found that serves ostrich meat burgers (deliciious and fairly healthy if you toss the bun and avoid the toppings:rotfl:).

have yet to find a place up here that i'm ga-ga for. sonic is pretty good for a chain, and we have a smaller local chain that's not bad (zips) with the added benefit of having awsome deep fried mushrooms as an alternative to fries.

bison meat is getting much more popular and available here (heck-costco is carrying it now), and i keep waiting for one of the better drive through places to add it as an option (phenominal ground meat for a patty-very moist but SO much healthier).

When our 5 Guys first opened a couple of years ago, they were awesome! Now...not so much! Everything is always soaked in grease, including the fries.

5 guys just opened near us, as well. We had our first taste this past weekend, and they were awesome!

The only reason we stopped there was because the parking lot always seemed full, and I had just read an article where they bumped In-n-Out from the #1 spot in a yearly burger review.

Our fries weren't limp at all (malt vinegar is a must on fries like that, too!), and the burgers were great. DD is a hot dog fanatic and she loved the hot dog they had, as well.

I understand they are new and after awhile they may start to become ho-hum, but they're taking our area by storm.

Nope, not new. They originated in the DC area (northern VA specifically) at least 15 years ago. They slowly expanded in this area and then, about 8 years ago had a massive franchise BOOM that seems to be putting them everywhere.

I don't think anything has changed in the 10 years I've been eating there. Quality has stayed the same.

I love their hot dogs, and get the fries with bbq sauce on the side. They are awesome!

I travel a lot for business, so I've had the pleasure of eating many a burger..
My all time favorite burger on the road is definitely Fuddrucker's (I have an 'are you man enough' 1lb challenge t-shirt to prove it :) Nothing like a half-pound Fudd's burger, medium rare..

(I hate living here in Canada.. we can't get a burger less than Medium-Well)

I've had Five-Guys a couple of times in the DC area and it was 'ok'. The burgers were nothing to brag about, but I did love the fries.

In-N-Out is a whole other world of simplistic awesomeness. At Fudd's I enjoy the pure satisfaction of a giant perfectly cooked patty, highlighted by the buttered-grilled bun and some toppings. At In-N-Out, you feel 'good' about eating the burger because the emphasis is on the freshness of the toppings.

If I compare the fast-food places, I would lump McD's, BK, Wendy's, A-Dub, Arctic Circle, In-N-Out, Five-Guys etc into a category. In-N-Out CLEARLY takes the lead.

I'd have to put Fudd's in the to 'family restaurant' category, which takes it up a notch to begin with.. but when comparing it to a Hardee's, Carl's Jr, etc - Fudd's wins in my book...

Sadly, I'm embarrassed to say that I eat at Fudds at least 3 times in a work-week trip to the DC area... It's just THAT good :( I'll hit Five-Guys maybe once ever couple of months worth of travel.

I meant "new" for our area. I know they've been around for ages. A PP had mentioned how theirs was the hot thing at first, but then slowly went downhill. I was just acknowledging that it could happen here, as well. :thumbsup2

Curious about the hamburgers. Do they use local beef? Would seem that they would have to have local vendors, so wouldn't the quality differ from place to place? They are franchised right?

What are the prices like?
