DH an I love 5 guys but very rarely eat there but then it is rare for us to eat out anywhere on our limited budget. It's just as well right now as I don't think I'd be able to eat but maybe a 1/3rd of most any kid meal out there.
I could take them or leave them. The burgers are good but they will only make them well done and I don't like their fries at all. I never order them there anymore and I love ff. Plus I think they are expensive for food that comes in a bag.
Love love love the Cajun fries! I always get extra seasoning for them. Can't comment on the burgers because I always get the grilled cheese, which is yummy!
Dh and I just didn't get all the hype after we tried Five Guys. The food was ok, but nothing we loved. Portions were huge, we threw away half our food.
It's been months since we first tried it and neither one of us has suggested we go back so I don't know how long it will take us to make a second visit. When we do I know we'll order much smaller meals!
Well, you aren't missing anything by not having a Steak N Shake, IMHO it is the worst fast food restaurant out there, except for the milkshakes. I will not go there, ever.
Now In-N-Out Burger, totally want to try one of those, never heard of Smash Burger, but I am open to trying any burger joint.
5 guys vary so much from location to location. We have 3 locally and only one is decent.
For us best fast food burger is a little place on LI All American.

The other restaurants that were mentioned here, Steak N Shake, IN and Out, etc, do they use fresh ground beef and make their burgers there or they typical fast food pre-made burgers?
When I first tried Five Guys YEARS ago, it was awful. I mean AWFUL. It was the greasiest thing I'd ever eaten and it made me so sick.
But then a few years ago I tried it again, but from a different location. The new location was awesome. I've bounced around a few different locations since then and have determined that it all depends on which Five Guys you go to. Some of them I won't go back to, but some of them are great.
For burgers, I love Steak & Shake too (and they're right across the street from Five Guys!), but I've found that which one I go to is dependent on the kind of burger I'm craving.
We've been to several 5Guys and loved them all. I usually eat a small cheeseburger and cajun fries. DH just gets a burger....and a few of my fries if he can find some that aren't covered with seasoning.
At Steak and Shake, I get the chicken so can't tell you about the burgers. Haven't heard of the others though.

Never been to In N Out burger but Steak and Shake are fresh. They are very very thin though. Their fries are very thin as well. I like both, depends on my craving. Shakes are great!
I like Five Guys & Steak-n-Shake, but we don't eat out often for health and budget. Although Five Guys is pricey for fast food, we usually only have it once every 6 months or so.
