One just opened up here. And from previous threads, I remembered this place being mentioned as being well loved, by many Disers. So, we tried it. All I can say is...YUMMMMM!!!!!!

But the question is, what do they do to the fries to make them cajun? Both times we have been there, they were so busy, we didn't want to hold up the line to ask and we are not willing to spend the money to get a small order, eat a couple of fries and pitch the rest because we don't like them.

they sprinkle cajun salt over them
Yeah, nothing to elaborate. Just some flavored salt seasoning. I have never tried it. Has anyone here? Where they good? Hot or just a little spicy?

I got some for DH. He loves spicy food and even he said that they "had a kick". I could never eat them by myself. I took a few and added them to a bag with some regular fries and shook it up. That was enough spice for me.

A bit off topic but do you think that 5Guys is going to go the way that Krispy Kreme did? They seem to be popping up all over our area. We have 2 in town and our population is under 70,000. Krispy Kreme stores weren't even that close together and I can't think of one in the Chicago area that is still open.

This I should be able to handle. We have a local bar/grill that has cajun fries and I can't eat them. They are batter coated, cooked then served already drizzeled with hot sauce. I thought if I had them hold the hot sauce, I would be ok, but whatever he puts in his batter, is hot, REALLY HOT.

I really hope not. This is the first 5Guys in our area. The next closest ones are a hour+ drive away.

We just had a Five Guys open up in Kingston, Ontario of all places. We are so happy!!! Love the burgers.

As for the seasoning. We just ask them to put the Cajun seasoning in a little plastic dish and we sprinkle it on after the kids have taken out some plain fries. That way Mom and dad get some spice!

I hope not because I really love their burgers but it does seem like they are opening a lot of stores!

Want to know a secret? You can order 5 Guys online and pay. Then you get to skip that huge line!!
The cajun fries are what I call spicy in the mouth. The did not affect my stomach in any way. They do have a bit of kick though. Very good!

the Cajun Fries have a seasoning blend of salt, cayenne pepper, oregano and black pepper-maybe a bit of garlic-yummers.
and they wont go the way of Krispy Kreme-because Krispy Kreme was a corporate chain-so when it over built they all went under because they supported each other. 5 Guys is franchised and there for locally owned-those with out good business plans will go under-but others will survive.

The fries are good, but the irony is that the burgers are very bland; it puzzles me that a place that likes to tout cajun fries doesn't put any seasonings to speak of in the burgers themselves. I go there strictly for the fries b/c I like fresh fries and they are a PITA to make at home. The burgers don't impress me at all; I don't see them as any better than any of the local burger places around here.

FTR, Five Guys uses McCormicks Cajun Seasoning on their cajun fries. You can try it at home if you like. (It isn't a patch on Tony Chachere's, but they do their best, bless their hearts. ;)) McCormicks' is rather reminiscent of Old Bay -- there is a definite clove note.

My bet is they go the way of krispy kreme sooner rather than later. Lots of other burger competition and many of them are backed by corporate bankroll. I dont see 5 guys surviving on 5 dollar burgers and 3 dollar fries for long.

Around here they are way better than any other fast food, they don't microwave theirs. BK or some of the others, you can get a burger that had been nuked to death. I love Five Guys but I have to admit, the first time I wasn't impressed, but now, I love them.

I didn't know the fries were cajun, just that they had a kick to them and they have malt vinegar to put on them. Yum! We just tried 5 Guys while out of town last month and discovered two of them in our area! Love it.

I do, they are way more crowded than our other burger joints. Like someone else said, they aren't corporate, they are franchised. One manager told me that you had to have a least 1 mil, liquid.

They are better than fast food joints in that they make them to order, Wendy's does too, but our Wendy's is the pits they always get it wrong and are as slow as all get out.

There are other places but their burgers are more expensive and really not that much better, so I think that our Five Guys will stay around for quite some time, maybe in other areas not, but our yes.

My mom and I went for the first time last week.

We weren't sure if we would like the cajun fries, so the cashier offered to give it to us on the side so we could try it out. We dumped half the fries into the empty bag, sprinkled on the seasoning, and shook them up. So, if you get the seasoning on the side you can add as much or as little as you like.

Our 5Guys is always packed at lunch, every single day. Sometimes I have had to wait 15 mins in line and they have been open for about 2 years now! But it is totally worth it. I love their burgers and fries and their hot dogs are the best I have ever tasted. YUM!!

I know what I am having for dinner tonight!

We have only be to 5Guys twice, but I will say this I liked their burgers a lot better than Red Robins. I can get basicly the same burger - Whiskey River BBQ - for a lot cheaper at 5Guys.

The way they cook their burgers seems to be a lot like Steak N' Shake, minus all the extra's that you can order at SNS.

I am in looove with the cajun fries. They definitely have a little kick to them. Some might even consider them too spicy, but darn they're GOOD!! a Five Guys burger with a load of toppings, Five Guys cajun fries and a Chick Fil A sweet tea... omg.. heaven!! :cloud9:

I think that in price, freshness and taste, they compare to Culvers. The only thing is that Culvers offers a lot other options besides burgers, hot dogs and fries.

Culvers are also franchise and at least here they have been around for years and are spaced out further than 5 Guys. To me, they're popping just too close together and I'm betting that some will be vacant within a year or two.

One reason that I won't go there often is because they do not have a drive-up window. Same goes for Subway, Jimmy Johns, Noodles & Co, Qudoba, Chipotle...
