Five days and I haven't even started to pack!

T minus 10.5 hrs, 1/2 packed. The kids are 99% packed, the grownups are 1/3rd packed. (I'm half-packed, DH hasn't even started, sigh). So far my innocent duo STILL don't suspect--I told them A) grandma wants her luggage back (it's true, they are her suitcases we are using) so I had to get them out of the attic and B) I was sorting through their summer clothes to see what they outgrew since last year (also true--they grew a TON ;-) My kids are such innocents. Boy are they going to be shocked at 3:30 AM :-)

Oh I love surprises. I am so waiting to hear how everything went. We surprised our girls in 2007. We just got in the car and drove. It was for dd's birthday. She was turning 7. She is also on the spectrum. We leave in a week and she is driving me crazy with questions about when we leave. I can't say "let's go" she thinks we are leaving for Disney and we are just going to soccer practice.

That's one of the reasons for the surprise--I'd be insane by now otherwise :-)

The packing is done, the car is loaded, we leave in 3.5 hrs--and I can't sleep!! Been trying for 3+ hrs now. I'll be a wreck.

so who knew delta has wi-fi now?? cruisin' at 30,000 feet here...

the departure wasn't quite as smooth as we hoped--DH & I overslept by an HOUR. I almost had heart failure when i saw the clock. So we hopped up, dragged the kids out of bed, just told them it was a birthday surprise (glad we loaded the luggage last night) and threw them in the car with a bagel and a capri sun (70 miles to airport and we're an hr behind schedule). We finally told them in the car mid hell-for-leather drive, didn't even get to see their faces (but I did hear the shock/joy in their voices!) made it to the airport 40 minutes before departure. barely got the luggage checked, then threw myself at the mercy of the securty guard to let us go through the first class line (because regular was 10 rows deep). then i scored the body patdown AND the bag exam with the security team--yikes! We got to the gate, walked on the plane and they closed the doors behind us. That's WAY way too close for my comfort! I remained calm but was VERY tense. (I still don't know why alarm didn't go off, didn;t even take the 2 minutes to check).

so after a hairy hairy drive (thank goodness no state cops!) we made the plane and we're on our way at last! the kids are still taking it in--but are WAY way excited ;-)

All right! Last minute packing can be done, it's been proven. :)
Now let us know if you forgot anything important, as I still have time to throw it into a suitcase for our upcoming trip. Seriously, have a great time.
