Fishing,accelerating modifying and MEP

So I read in a comment on another Disney blog from someone claiming that a rider swap pass can be used like a MEP to accelerate LLs.

So for example, me, my friend, and my toddler would show up to Big Thunder Mountain to get a rider swap. I would wait in line, and she would get a rider swap pass on her phone and wait with the toddler. But instead of her then riding the ride, we could go to Smuggler's Run, she would wait in that standby line, and I would get a rider swap pass on my phone. (I'm ignoring anything about Tiers just because I don't know off the top of my head what is Gold vs Silver and we were each already planning on doing BTMRR/Smuggler's solo). Then with both of us holding rider swap passes, we could book LLs for yet another attraction and accelerate them forward the same as if we had an MEP, as long as we don't go on Big Thunder or Smuggler's (respectively).

This sounds less efficient than fishing for MEPs but more of a sure thing. Can anyone confirm if this is possible? I'm not sure we would even take advantage of it but it is interesting to think about the possibilities...
Where did you see this? Any confirmation? Im super curious. I could test out in November but that’s a ways away 🤣

My guess is that the system will automatically take the LL if you are within the return window. It will only use the MEP if it has to.

The actually scanning of the code or your Magic Band has never been LL pass specific. You are just identifying yourself to the system. It then sees if you have the necessary pass and uses it. The bug around the system choosing the wrong pass (where it would choose any LL for the ride over an MEP, even if it wasn’t time yet) has been fixed.
Correct. And at this point if I had both a LL for a ride and an MEP, I would NOT risk arriving 5 minutes early (which the LL allows) in case the system said “nope, you’re not in the window, I’m taking the MEP instead”.

1. So does this mean that say I have an LL for Big Thunder and I have an MEP from Indiana Jones that I got because the ride was down during my booking window. As long as I go to Big Thunder during the booked time for that particular ride the system will use that LL when I scan in with my MB. I will retain the MEP which I can use on another ride that I don't have an LL booked for.

2. Does this mean I could go back and ride Big Thunder again using my MEP

3. Would a good strategy for LL bookings moving forward be to book LL's for rides that are notorious for breaking down (say Matterhorn) throughout the day and keep stacking MEP's (if you are lucky enough to get them) or will this not be allowed.

4. Can you book an LL for a ride that is currently down at a later time or will the system not let you book it until it comes back up again

Sorry for so many questions but this new update to the system has changed the way I was going to plan out my day.

That’s correct.

Yes

Unless something changed with the conversion to LLMP from Genie+, yes, this is a viable strategy. On these boards, this is referred to as “fishing for MEPs”.
4. Can you book an LL for a ride that is currently down at a later time or will the system not let you book it until it comes back up again
It depends. Generally I think you can but usually the return time will be so off into the future it may not be worth it.

Thanks for all your answers, this helps a lot.

LOL, the correct new name of this is now Experience Access Pass (I think) so now we have to call it an EAP. I tell you as a 63 year old I really struggle with all the acronyms in this new world of ours.
I’m only halfway joking when I tell people that my acronym dictionary is full and not accepting any new entries.

4. Can you book an LL for a ride that is currently down at a later time or will the system not let you book it until it comes back up again
At Disneyland I was able to do this; booked a LL for Matterhorn first thing in the morning when it was down, and about 15 minutes into my LL window, it was still down, and it converted to a MEP. We also tried this a couple more times, but both other times the ride re-opened before our LL window so didn't convert.

This was at the start of the day, so later in the day the window might be farther out so harder to do this.

Wait I think I missed the big headline here on the previous page, did the shift of name for Genie+ mean the end of accelerating LLs with MEPs? Anyone confirm, with specifically not using the LL in like the 5 minute grace period beforehand or 15 min afterwards as I know that could take the MEP potentially.

I cannot confirm myself, but yes that is the rumor. MEP's are still really valuable. You can also modify up your times with enough refreshing.

Sorry, what does MEP acceleration mean? I know what MEP are, but I'm not sure I know what the acceleration part is. Can someone explain?

Hmmm, then how come they call it a "multi" experience pass?
Instead of it being used for a single ride to which you've committed in advance (like a Lightning Lane pass), you can use the Multi Experience Pass on any of the rides that it allows without a previous commitment. How you got the MEP determines on which ride you can use it (getting it due to Indiana Jones breaking down allows you to use it on most rides, whereas getting it due to Monsters Inc. breaking down will have a more limited selection).
