Hey Everyone,

So we are about 6 months out from our trip. Time will fly and it will be here before we know it.

I wanted to get everyones opinions on timing for the group? When do we want to cut signups for the group? How long does everyone think they will need to get there final gifts in order? 30 days? 60 days? 90 days?

Let me know your thoughts.

Being a first timer, I'd love to have the 90 days to prepare! Don't know what's customary but I'm kind of a planner so the more time the better from my perspective :-). Thanks!

60 seems too far out, but 30 seems to be cutting it close. Can I vote for something in between, maybe closer to 45 days? Something like maybe January 31 as the last day to sign up? That would be something like 43 days out...

The reason I say 60 days seems too far out is because it leaves out anyone who wants to joins later. Same thing with the 90 days; if someone books the cruise 90 days out, then it's too late for them to join the FE if we've already closed the exchange. Just a thought.

I like the idea of closing it at 60 days or maybe having a couple of different groups and capping each exchange at 25 rooms depEnding on how many sign up

I don't anticipate the amount of signups would require us to split up into 2 groups. We did the FE on podcast cruse 3.0 in one group and there is no way we will have more signups in this group. :-)

I'm thinking 6 to 8 weeks for the cut off seems like a good time.

Last year (same dates, same itinerary) we had a cut off around 30/40 days before the cruise. When several families showed up after that they formed a second group. Some people in FE1 chose to join FE2 as well. The same thing happened two years ago, only then we actually had five families who formed a FE3 group just a few days before the cruise. So we should definitely expect last minute families. We could also easily get 40 or 50 families which can become overwhelming. So having a very clear closing, either based on date or on number of cabins/families for the first FE group is a good idea.

All of the FE participants in the three groups chatted on the same thread and in the same Facebook group. It was all very friendly. It was just that many of the participants really needed time to finish their gifts and thus really needed a firm cut off date to be sure they could include everyone in their group.

I don't mind putting a hard cap on rooms. 25 rooms would be a bit small in my opinion but am welcome to suggestions. 30 or 45 days as a cutoff sounds like a decent number to me. What does everyone think?

It's all in how one sees things, Mike... 25 rooms seems big to me. :) (My last one had 16 rooms in my group and that was the largest of the four groups in the exchange.)

I personally prefer smaller groups with the option to join more than one group if you want to have more cabins to give to and receive from. That way you don't break your budget if you need to stick to a budget, and you can afford to give nicer things, not just cheap junk, especially if you want to give to each person in the cabin, not just give one gift to the cabin.

When it comes to gifts I think its important that we let everyone know they are welcome to give whatever they want. They can spend as much, or as little as they like to be a part of the FE group. Gifts can be individual or stateroom. I would encourage the group to be mindful of there budget and don't feel obligated to break the bank. One family's "cheap junk" is another family's treasurer, or so they say. :lmao: This is about having fun, being creative, and meeting some new friends. :thumbsup2

PCC 3.0 I would say we had at least 40 groups in the one share, and there was a 2nd share of late sign ups. Delivery was a snap with the maps I gave out and really it was no problem to get it all done over 4 days. This is my family's first 7 night cruise, so we would find no problems with a 100 group share, other then maybe the suitcase full of stuff. :crazy2:

Anyways, this is not my share, its OUR share, so we will all come to an agreement that works for all of us, and I will go by that.
