The cast of characters:
Donna (firstmickey) and my DD (Kaitlin) age 9, and DS (Kevin) age 6
My best friend, Sue, and her DS (Nick) age 12 and DS (Matt)age 10

WE were trying to plan a 4 day beach trip away with the kids.
but every where we found was either booked or too expensive.
I said jokingly lets go to Disney, I could get us a cheaper room than this with my annual pass.
So we decided last Monday (8/11/03) AM to drive down. We called and were able to get 2 connecting rooms on property at an AP rate of $84/nite at POR.
The best part is that I didn't tell my kids. I packed in secret all day and even told them I was getting maps for Granddad to go to Canada at AAA.
They were all bummed that they couldn't go to Canada too. I told them they were going to the Science Center. (which cheered Kevin up)

Woke them up at 6 AM Tuesday and told them. It was the greatest. You should have seen their faces.
Kaitlin started crying "I got happy tears", Kevin didn't believe me He kept saying "Your teasing mom"
I took pictures. We were so excited.

Left at 6:20AM Tuesday (8/12) and drove all day. It was easy with 2 drivers. Kids watched TV in car all day.
We were going to stop in Georgia at 8:30 but Sue and I were not tired so we kept going.
Her son, Nick (12) kept saying "DRIVE WOMEN, DRIVE!" It became the theme of the drive.
Got to Jacksonville, FLA at 10:30, called to see if our room was ready and we could just stay there. Called POR and they said our rooms were available but we would have to pay rack rate if we booked with them. Called CRO and was able to change ressie to AP rate. AT this point, I just wanted to wake up at our Disney resort. We weren't planning on doing parks that day and wanted to just hang at the pool.
So we kept driving and got to our resort at 12:30 AM.

Got our keys, it was a hike from the car. Our room was in the Alligator Bayou building 26. Rooms 2664 and 2663. Very poor room choice if you have a car. Very far from parking lot.
Sue started unloading car and Kaitlin and I went to find our house with our rooms in it. POR is very dark at night. All of the lighting is on the ground and all of the signs are in the air. Very difficult to see building numbers in the dark.
First door opens 2664 very nice corner room, anything looks good at this point. Very cool and clean. (It must have been 100 degrees and humid).
2nd door 2663 won't open, Key works but chain is on. I think, OK you must have to go thru connecting door instead. Door is locked. I go back and try again. (AT this point my brain is thinking there is someone in there but why would they give me an occupied room???)
OOPS, ever hear of Goldilocks?
Somebody is sleeping in my bed.
This guy comes out and says that they added another nite on to their stay. He was very nice. He said he did it late in the day, they decided at the last minute.

I start a slow burn (remember it is about 1:30 by this time and I am hot and tired with hot and tired kids). I walk back to tell Sue not to unpack anymore, but of course the whole car is sitting on the curb. I walk back to the open room and call the lobby. They can't believe someone is in that room. I am not pleasant with them. (HOW can they NOT know). I tell them we need someone to help us with our stuff and help take us to new room. They say they will send someone over. We go back to car and wait and wait.
No one comes so I walk to lobby with 2 of the kids. When I get there, they say they sent a bellman with the keys. They have put us in the mansions.
They say that the guy in our room "self extended" his stay. They had no idea he was there. I don't know how his key worked? Maybe a glitch. They even said that housekeeping had already cleaned it for us. They told us we would have a comp for breakfast next day and there would be a message on our phone about it.

Our new rooms were in Acadian House in the mansions. Numbers 8217 and 8218. 2nd floor facing the parking lot. I walk over there with the two kids. Sue drives the van over and the bellman lugs our stuff up. By this time it is 3 AM, everyone is tired and hot. We are happy to be in a nice AC room with beds. Sue and her kids (newbies) are NOT feeling the magic yet. I tell her Don't worry, it will get better.
Gave us free breakfast in the sitdown restaurant for our aggravations.

Good thing tomorrow (today?) is a just a hang by the pool day.
It will be funny in the morning, right?
DD says we are like the story of the 3 bears: Somebody is sleeping in our beds. All of the kids found this hilarious for the rest of the stay! Any CM we told this story to at the resort found it very funny also!

Now I find it very funny, then DEFinitely not!!

At least you are there and ready to start your adventures - thanks for posting!

Brilliant trip report - Fancy - self extending!!! Do you think he was trying to get away without paying:p :jester: Good thing he was not nude:eek: :o ;) Which room did you prefer the mansions or the Bayou ? oh and I hope the comped breakfast was good

:)

thanks for posting!! I can't wait to hear about the rest of your stay at POR!

It is unsettling to think that two seperate electronically coded keys, supposedly keys electronically changed at checkout would work for the same room.

Hope you wake up in time for breakfast after such a long hot night;)
