First Week in June - Crowds?

We are thinking of going the first week of June after my son is out of school. As long as there are no more snow days he is out May 28th.

Some crowd calenders state moderate while others are level 8 out of 10.

Has anyone here ever gone? Your thoughts on crowds?

We went the first week of June in 2008 and 2010. It was by far the least crowded trips we've taken (though in fairness our others have been at spring break and Christmas).

You will definitely be beating a lot of the rush though as schools in some parts of the country won't quite be out yet.

Thanks for your input! I was hoping we would beat the school crowd- def. with all the snow and school cancellations some states are getting. I think it will be fine but we are used to going during slower times so DH is a bit worried.

We were there from May 26th to June 4th this past summer and it was fantastic! Great weather and not too crowded. The waterparks were dead.

We are going June 14 to 21. Anyone know if that's when it starts to pick up

The week starting Memorial Day is in the 7 range. We went during that week 2010, 2013, 2014. In 2012 we went the week following which happened to be first full week of June. I felt that week was closer to 8-8.5. I wouldn't put too much faith into crowd calendars now. It seems that travel patterns are changing and historical data is no longer relevant. We went to MK last month on a "6" day and it was the busiest I have ever seen it outside of Xmas week.

Passing absolutely no judgment here, but just giving you a heads up in case it factors into your decision...the first week of June is typically "Gay Days" in Orlando. Wouldn't affect my plans, but everyone has their own views.

volfan1978,

Good catch! I totally forgot about that. It's the first full weekend in June if I remember correctly.

Ah yes- I was wondering when that was- no biggie to me but good to know. I hear some people can be a little over the top so I will just make sure to have a response in case my two young boys (4 and 5) ask. Is there anywhere to steer clear of? I would think Pleasure Island at night.

There is no Pleasure Island anymore.

Most of the nighttime events for Gay Weekend are now private events held off Disney property.

Pleasure Island has been gone for nearly a decade. But, to answer your question, no, there's really no place you need to steer clear of. It's pretty much just families with kids.

Sorry- just habit- like calling HS MGM. There still is a night life at Downtown Disney though right?

Also- was not trying to be offensive to gays with the whole place to steer clear question- more just trying to steer clear of loud/partying adults in general.

Steer clear of parks that are designated for activities for that particular day. I think Gay Days has a website with a calendar of events. My kids are old enough to understand the situations now, but not when they were 5 or 6. Most of the time it wasn't anything to be concerned about. However, there were some moments of PDA that would have been inappropriate for a man and woman in public.

Agree...when we lived in Florida we had AP's, and one time we went during Gay Days. For the most part it's a non-issue, but we saw some homemade t-shirts with questionable slogans (e.g., one partner was wearing a shirt that said "Power Top" and the other was wearing "Power Bottom"). Didn't bother me, but I wouldn't have wanted to explain to my small children what those shirts meant--whether the wearers were gay or straight!

I'm sure it's more crowded then, but it's not that bad. We've gone then and are planning to do it again. I'm a teacher so we don't have tons of options. I think it all depends what you're used to. If you've only ever been in the middle of September or something I'm sure it would feel super crowded.

We were at WDW last year from 5/31-6/8. For going in the summer, the first week in June is what I would recommend.

Crowds were in the what I consider the moderate range - 6's-8's, but it didn't seem crazy or overwhelming to me. Our typical plan was RD, stay to lunch, head back to resort to swim/relax, dinner, then evening time at park/resort/DTD. Some days we did FP+ midmorning/early afternoon. Others, we used FP+ for evening time after dinner in the parks. PAP's allowed us to park hop. Midday breaks were key.

Weather was warm - it touched 90 some afternoons, but the crazy heat and humidity wasn't there yet. Evenings were very pleasant. Made pool time that much better, or maybe it was the pool bar :drinking1:banana:.

Crowds did start picking up a little towards the end of our trip, but I think crowds really don't start coming in true "summer" numbers until June 14th-15th time frame.

Have a great trip!
