I just booked a trip for the first week of August. Staying at WL. When I called CRO, they said I could have any room type I wanted!! (standard view, woods view and courtyard were all available). I also checked Expedia and they seem to have just about every room type available at every on site resort.

The weeks before in July and the end of August have much less room availability. Does the availability of on site rooms mean that the parks will be less crowded, or does it mean that people are booking offsite because Disney isn't offering any discounts during this week? I'm hoping it's going to be a slow week, but I'm guessing that there is another reason there are so many on site rooms available.

Anyone have any insights?

I wish I could say I thought it would be less crowded, I hope it will be, but I doubt it. Probably the resorts are not as booked because of the free dining packages for the end of August, but there will still be a lot of locals etc because of school being out.
I know we are booked for August 13-18th at the BWI and that is value season, which would indicate that this is typically a slower time of year for the resorts, anyone else have any insight? :confused3

I thought I read somewhere (not sure it was on this board) that most of the school systems around WDW start back to school on August 8th. Did anyone else see this - or know for sure when Florida schools start back?

Here in NC all schools have to start after August 25th. I guess maybe some private schools are exempt (not sure). This is new and just starting this year - so the kids are getting a long summer vacation (May 20 - Aug 25). We are going the 2nd week of August and hope the crowds thin a little bit.

The end of August had a lot of availability for ADR's which I was suprised about since the free dining will be starting then. It's probably hard to predict how busy its going to be. Hopefully everyone has a magical vacation even if it is busy. :goodvibes

GOOD!! GOOD!! GOOD!! We are there the first week of August!! Sounds like the park will not be too crowded!! Hopefully the attendance will stay that way.

We were there the last week of June and it was busy and especially crowded at MK. Hopefully we get to do more attraction this time.

Last year the school ended on May 25 and the school started on August 9 in the Orlando area. I was doing research cause we were planning to move down there. This year the school will probably start on August 8.

Great news we are going first week and staying at BWI maybe a upgrade if its not sold out.

Dare we hope for low crowds :sunny: I guess we can always keep our fingers crossed...and of course upgrading for a nominal fee (ok--or none :wizard: ) would be nice. :rolleyes1

I was just going to post something similar. I have a friend booking a last minute trip for the end of July into the first week of August. There is availability in all of the values and moderates I checked. Even airfare on USAir is cheap which never seems to happen this short notice.

I WISH! It would be great. My parents booked aug. 5th-12th (8 nights, 9 days) and we got everything we wanted too! i really hope it's not that crowded...

edit: we got the savannah view for the AKL

Yes we too are going the first week in August..we did our ADR's but decided to change 85% of them (becuase of emh etc) thought we would have a problem this late in the game but NO...we got every time we wanted at every restaruant! The resorts are not booked to capacity either which is good news and the locals start school that week. I am hoping the attendence will be lower (just at least not packed to the brim). now we are in double digits so it seems much more real than before :Pinkbounc
when do you all begin to pack?

Now...if we could all do something about the heat and humidity lol...............

Resort occupancy does not necessarily reflect park crowds, as many do stay off site.

As noted many schools in the South start back in early August. You will see larger crowds on the weekends due to locals still coming.

Also it is very hot and extremely humid then, and peak hurricane season.

Attendance will be down from the peak crowds of June and July but still busy.

School in Broward County starts August 8. We got a call on the last day of school, June 2, letting us know that they kids would be expected back on August 8. And I just found out that the school year was moved up because the State moved up the FCAT testing dates, and that they will move it up again next year. :confused3

Oh I'm so glad I read this thread! We are staying at BWV's Aug. 7 through the 12th and I'd be thrilled if it weren't too crowded. We were just there for Memorial Day weekend and that was pretty darn crowded, so this is making me happy!! I thought it was strange because I've been switching a lot of my ADR's around and basically any time I've requested has been available. Yay!

I, too have noticed that the resorts have plenty of availability for that time to. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will mean smaller crowds. I will also be at WL 7/30-8/5 :cool1:

Now, all we need is some decent weather. :sunny:

I keep changing my plan because of what I have been reading about crowds & emh, it's very confusing. I haven't made my AR's yet but plan to soon. I still need to consult with the rest of our group.

But it does reflect resort crowds, and fewer people in the resorts means fewer people taking advantage of EMHs, am I right? :confused3 Please let us have this one little glimmer of low crowds hope. pirate:

Fantasia,

Thats awesome that you are going so quick after your last trip...especially for someone not living in Florida. I need you to talk to my wife and get her that excited about Disney. :rotfl2:

Just taking advantage of the fact that the kids are out of school. Once they are back to school it will be awhile before we get back. Just taking care of my Disney withrawals now while I can! You are a very good husband!! Glad to see guys are into Disney and likes to have fun and be young at heart...and be "Goofy."

::yes::
::crossing fingers:: hoping that there will be low crowds. I'm still keeping my spirit up!

It may mean less crowds, though I think we won't notice it. At least we can hope. From this thread, I guess at least some of us will be there! :)

We will be there 8/3 - 8/11. I'm just hoping that it won't be nearly as crowded as our last trip over Spring Break.

All we have to do is worry that all that rain goes away. :sad2:
But if it doesn't we will just bring some extra .99 cent ponchos and make the best of it.

Also if you go with the assumption that it will be crowded and you do what you can ---- you might be pleasently suprised in the end. :flower:
