We are a family of five--myself, DH, DD-9, DS-14, DD-16. This was our first trip to DisneyWorld--conceived, planned and completed within three months! I have all of you to thank for making it possible. DH and I first discussed it in late April--very hypothetically without a date in mind. I said (naively) "I'll do some research". Well, this is one of the places I ended up spending a lot of time, and the rest is history! :D I was so affected (infected?) by the enthusiasm and joy expressed by so many people here, that I was determined to go this year before school was to start.

We decided that we could go at the end of summer, but only if we stayed offsite (budget). I was able to find a condo...very nearby, at a great price. So we booked it for 7/31-8/7. We were a little concerned about the timing because of what I'd read about crowds, heat, and the daily rainshowers...but when you have school age kids, how many options do you have? Besides, we're from Texas...we know about heat ;)

We left from Fort Worth at 6:30am on 7/30 (an hour later than planned), DH driving. We picked up the rental car the day before, and had mostly packed it then, too. Breakfast in car-granola bars, gogurt, etc... Drive was easy, kids were great (!?!). Arrived in Breaux Bridge LA around 12:45 to find that our lunch destination (yes, pre-planned) was closed for remodeling. DS had made an early request for "cajun seafood", hence the pre-planning. We improvised and all was well, except a little drive time lost and a few extra dollars spent. Back on the road, I'm driving now. By 5:30pm and an hour lost in a Baton Rouge traffic jam, we realized we would be arriving a couple of hours late at our hotel (yes, reserved) in Milton FL. Called the hotel from a rest-area break to confirm our late arrival. Arrived at Holiday inn express in Milton (just east of Pensacola) around 8:45pm. I narrowly missed hitting an armadillo on the route between Mobile Al. and Pensacola Fl. Wheew. Hotel was comfy, clean, suite for 6, microfridge. Hotpockets for dinner. Surprised the kids with "The Haunted Mansion" DVD-watched it on the laptop :)

Keep up the good work on the report. Looking forward to your heat comparison between Florida and Texas.
