Hi everyone! This is my first week on the DISboards and I am attempting my first thread. I went to Disney a few times when I was very young each time staying offsite, so this is pretty much my first time. My husband has never been and this will also be our son's first time. I think I have done a good job with the planning because I have done a ton of research. Luckily my job allows me to spend almost all day online "playing with Disney". I am a compulsive planner on anything I do, so I have spreadsheets upon spreadsheets helping me figure out this trip.

Here are a few of the details. Feb 4-11 flying from Manchester, NH to MCO nonstop on Southwest. Have to do non-stop or DH would not go. He is less than excited about travelling anywhere, but I hope he will see just what a magical place Disney is and be happy once we get there. He is the main reason why we are spending so much money on the Poly....convenience! I want him to have a good time, or he will never want to go back. He hates crowds, hates the heat, and hates structure. I know, you are saying "boy you have your hands full Suzi". Yes, yes I do

I bounced back and forth and back again on where to stay. It was basically between POFQ or the Poly. See, my parents are going to be there with us for the first 3 days, so they are paying for those 3 days. With this gift from them, we have the chance to stay at the Poly....otherwise we would NEVER be able to afford it. I would rather have 2 rooms while they are with us, but I guess we all have to make sacrifices...right? I just think the convenience of the monorail vs buses everyday will be great for DH, not to mention easier with a 5 year old! Plus, I can't get the famous Tonga Toast every morning for breakfast if I stay at POFQ! ;)

So to give a little of the details:

I booked this trip way back in June, but started planning last Christmas...so I am very very ready for February 4th to get here :rolleyes1
We will be getting to MCO around 3pm, so I don't anticipate going to any parks that first evening. I have heard it takes a few hours from touchdown to room. I am planning on using the Magical Express and their luggage service. Anyone had any issues with their luggage service? Would we be better off to grab our bags ourselves?

So I'm figuring we will arrive at the Poly around 5. It will be time for dinner, but because planes can be late and things can go wrong, I did not book any ADRs. We will just grab something at Capt Cooks that first night and get settled into our room. Maybe if we have time we can ride the monorail circuit just to give DH & DS a little taste of whats to come :woohoo:

The next morning my parents will drive up from Cape Coral, FL and hopefully arrive just as we are finishing breakfast (Capt Cooks again in case they arrive earlier than expected they can join us). We will get them settled in the room then head over to AK for the day. I am assuming it won't take all day for that park, so if we get a later start its okay. Lunch at Pizzafari I think. Then back to Poly for dinner at Kona. By the way, no dining plan since for the 3 days my parents will be there, they will pay for food.

Oops....the boss just gave me work to do.....will continue later. Hopefully I get some readers soon :sad1:

So onto day 2!

This will be our first MK day. Quick breakfast at Capts then off to rope drop. I don't really have any "touring plans", just want to take our time and see what we see. It is supposed to be a pretty slow time of year, so I am hoping we won't need to hop back and forth with fastpasses. We won't be doing many of the big rides that usually have long lines anyway, so we should be ok. I hope....am I wrong on this? Should I make a more hardcore plan? Just trying to keep things simple and stressfree for DH. Thunder Mtn and Dumbo will be closed while we are there, so no need for FP for those.

Anyhoo...thinking lunch at Columbia and dinner at Pecos Bills. But am open to Cosmic Rays, Plaza, or whatever happens to be near us when we get hungry. No ADRs today so we can just go with the flow. Hoping to watch the Electric Parade then catch a boat back to Poly while Wishes is going on so we can see it from that perspective.

Still no followers :rolleyes1 but thats okay. I was hoping for some advice on my plans, but at the very least this lets me get them all down and organize my thoughts a little more. Be back later with DAY 3 PLANS....EPCOT!

It looks like you have a great start to your plans already.

I have never stayed at the Poly, but we did stay at SoG last time, and since it's right across the street from the Poly, we got to enjoy a lot of Poly conveniences. I really do hope to stay there one day - it is a fabulous resort and so magical! :lovestruc And I love the smell - but I am weird like that. :rotfl2:

Can't wait to hear about the rest of your plans, and meet the "cast". :thumbsup2

Finally figured out how to upload pics, so here's the Cast! Although I somehow lost my ability to write in green :confused3

My license plate says SUZIQ, but plain old Suzi is fine too :) I work at a car dealer in a VERY small town. I don't love the work, but I love the people I work with. I love to read and don't know what I would do without my Kindle! Other hobbies are shopping, scrapbooking, camping, and just spending time with my little man. Oh and travelling. Cruises and Florida are my favs, but I've been all over the world including a 14 day cruise to Northern Europe. We take one "big" trip each year and lots of little weekend getaways around New England.

Bill
We have been married for 9 years this past Sept. He is a great husband and a wonderful father. We don't get to spend alot of time with him because he works nights driving a big truck. Hey, at least he is local and home everyday. He never traveled even once before I met him. But now he goes with us every other year. Usually we fly down to visit my parents in Cape Coral, but this winter we are going to Disney! I am really stressing out trying to make this trip as stressfree as possible so he will like it and want to go back. This picture was Father's Day this year at one of our favorite local spots.

BradeyHatFL.jpg
Bradey
He is my world. I love my little man so much. Bradey will be 5 on Monday! I can't believe how fast it has gone.:sad1: I know he is too young to remember this trip, but if I wait any longer he will be too old to believe in all the magic. I plan to make many many return trips with him. He is so excited to go meet Chip n' Dale. Yep, thats right...could care less about Mickey, but wants to see Chip n Dale. Thats why we only booked Garden Grill for the character meal. Not sure how he will act around them.

And also along for the first 3 or 4 days:

MomDad.jpg
DM(Deb) and DF(Tom)
These two are the reason we can stay at the best place in the World! They took my brother's family a few years ago for a 3 day quick trip. When they told me they wanted to take Bradey too, I said we had to do more than 3 days. So we are staying the week and they are paying for 3 days:cool1: I think it is going to work out quite well. I wish I could get them to stay the whole week, but we will just have to see how comfy we all are crammed into one room. Granted they are the most spacious room son property, but still.

So thats the crew. Can't wait to get some nice Disney pics for the next report :woohoo:

I'm here! Let's get this party started! :woohoo: :rockband:

I wouldn't really suggest touring plans if it is indeed slow (I haven't checked the TP website, yet) ... but I do recommend knowing when the best time to visit select attractions are. Even on "slow" days, there can still be lines, and I hate waiting. I'm impatient. :lmao:

I never take touring plans with me... and I go during "moderate" crowd levels. This will be my first year at making a plan, and I'm only doing it because I want to be that obsessive about my trip. :lmao::rotfl2:

A basic plan would work, and give you tons of flexibility. We usually grab FPs and wander around until we see something we want to do. We usually do an area and move on ... we aren't big "back and forth across the park" people.

I'll double-check TP and see what they say ... but I know that no website can every truly guess the crowd levels, they can only go on history and predictions .... so a plan is always good, just in case crowds are not as expected. :goodvibes

Our favorite is CHH, but Cosmic Rays is good, too. The kids love the show at Rays.

My DS was 3 on his first trip ... he still remembers things (he's 5 now and will be 6 late March). So there's a good chance your DS will create memories, and there's always pictures for him to help trigger those memories. :goodvibes

I've heard so many good things about GG -- and Chip 'n Dale! I can't wait to hear about his experience!

Anyway, can't wait to read more!! popcorn::popcorn::

I loved meeting your cast... DS is truly adorable!!! :lovestruc

My girls were 5 and 6 the frist time we went... they remember some things, and not others - but hey - I only remember some things and not others too, so... :confused3 We have lots of pictures to prove we were there and that's what matters. :rotfl2: Totally kidding, of course.

Sooo... I must speak up about Garden Grill, as every Diser should. :thumbsup2 IT IS THE BEST CHARACTER MEAL ON PROPERTY... imo, of course. Tons of great food, tons of character interaction, and because of the way the restaurant is situated - it really feels like you are all alone in the restaurant. :lovestruc Doesn't get any better than that. :lovestruc

Lookin' forward to hearing about the rest of your trip plans. :thumbsup2

Yay!:welcome: So glad to have you here!
Nice to hear it is okay to go without a touring plan. I am a compulsive planner and would love to plan out every minute, but I just don't know enough about the parks to go that hardcore yet. Maybe next trip. I figured we would just wander around and when we see something we want to do, we will do it. Afterall, we are right across the lake and can hop over any evening to do more if we miss something.

Glad to hear lots of people like GG. Neither DH or DS like crowds and loudness...especially while eating. The only meals I could see Chip n Dale were GG and Chef Mickeys. CM looks WAY too crazy for our first trip. Will most definately do that on another trip. We are planning on doing Contempo Cafe though, so they can experience the Contemporary. Of all my young trips, that is one thing I remember...the exitement that is Contemporary :woohoo:

Day 3 plan:

Still no ADR for breakfast...don't worry, I have a few later in the week. We just aren't sure how well we will sleep all together in one room, so if we happen to be up at 6, I don't want to have to wait around until 9 for an ADR. And likewise, if we are sleeping really well, don't want to have to set the alarm everyday of vacation!

Quick small breakfast at Capt Cooks then walk over to TTC to catch Epcot monorail. We will see Future World first and make our way to the countries for a light lunch. Thinking one of the pastry shops or something. Not too much because an early all-you-can-eat for dinner. Really want to try Boulangerie. Early ADR at Garden Grill so Bradey can see Chip n Dale. Hopefully we will have at least seen them at one of the other parks by now, but this should be his first up close encounter. Not sure how he will do, we don't have anything like that around here, so he has never seen a character in a suit (other than a Santa).

After dinner, I am assuming the little guy will be tuckered out, so Mom & Dad will take him back to the Poly and DH and I will explore the Boardwalk Area alone  Hoping to make a quick trip to HS so DH and I can ride Star Tours. I know DS will not like that one and the day we plan to do HS is after DM & DF leave. So if we can get that in, great. If not, its okay...next trip. Hoping to catch Illuminations too that night. Planning on watching Wishes from our beach whatever night best suits because DS doesn't like loud noises. This will be his first fireworks experience, so we figured we could watch them from the beach and it wouldn't be as loud.

So what countries have the best rides for DS? Not too boring, but not too dark & loud.

The crowds should be pretty light. I checked Dad's February Disney World crowd calendar and I checked Touring Plans crowd calendar. They both look pretty good (historically, that is). But keep in mind, even in best crowds, you probably won't get everything done that you want to get done. :sad2: I'd set some goals and prioritize attractions at the very least. We go during Moderate crowds, and we don't follow any plans .... we just decide what we have to see versus what we want to see. So when we get to stuff that we were okay with skipping ... it makes it much sweeter to feel like we accomplished an amazing vacation! :cloud9:

Glad to hear lots of people like GG. Neither DH or DS like crowds and loudness...especially while eating. The only meals I could see Chip n Dale were GG and Chef Mickeys. There's no guarantee that C&D would show for a CM meal. We went to CM in 2009 and there was no C&D. We saw Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Pluto, and Goofy. I think the only way to guarantee seeing C&D is with GG. Have you read much about GG? I didn't know it rotated until recently. Anytime I have seen the place, it was before dinner hours, so it was closed. We're usually in WSC most of the evening.

IMO, CM was pretty chaotic. The characters were okay, they spent a good amount of time with my kids -- it was our first visit and DS was super excited to meet them. Donald is his favorite (and the first character he'd allow to interact with him) ... but when he saw Mickey ... WOW! The kid went nuts! I thought he was going to explode. :lmao: With DS's reaction, Mickey really got into it and gave DS lots and lots of attention. I kind of felt bad for DD, but she did get some love and a signature, so she was happy.

Well ... there isn't much in the way or rides in WSC....

Canada: 360 film O Canada (standing theater)
UK: shops and dining ... but they do have a Toy Shop (and Pooh & Friends are sometimes meeting in it)
France: Impressions de France is a 200 (degree) film; I haven't seen this, so I can't confirm if its standing or if there are seats (probably standing only)
Morocco: no attractions
Japan: no attractions -- but there is Pick a Pearl in Mitsukoshi store -- it's a blast!
USA: The American Adventure, another theater show (seating available); animatronics (like Hall of Presidents
Italy: no attractions
Germany: no attractions (but be sure to try the caramel at Karamell Kuche)
China: 360 film Reflections of China, standing only
Norway: Maelstrom; 16 passenger boats take you through the history of Norway (warning, there's some pretty creepy animatronics and some dark places)
Mexico: Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros; super fun Donald and friends boat ride through Mexico -- this is a MUST do for us every year :goodvibes

As far as attractions in Future World... I highly recommend Turtle Talk with Crush. It's one of my favorites, and I'm an adult! We usually ride The Seas with Nemo & Friends first, then visit Crush. :goodvibes

Innoventions has tons of neat stuff that he'll probably enjoy! (It even has video games!)

My DS5 is a scaredy-cat like his daddy (which is okay) ... but he loves Soarin'. It can be intimidating ... but it really is amazing. If your DS can't handle the excitement; be sure to do a Rider Swap. This is a MUST! :goodvibes

My DS5 does not like Test Track ... but I still think its a must. So be sure to Rider Swap it if he isn't feeling up for an adventure!

I know there's other attractions ... but you only asked about WSC ones ... :lmao::rotfl2: If you want a full park review, I'm game to give it.

This concludes your daily thread-jacking. Thank you for staying seated during the entire ride. Please exit to your left. Thank you and have a great day.

Welcome aboard! I finally found someone who is going the same week :) I've looked and looked. Not that we are likely to see eachother, or know who we are, but still....nice to know I won't be alone down there :woohoo: Actually that would be a dream come true to have Disney all to myself!

Thanks so much for the run down of WSC! Thats helps a ton. And that is not thread-jacking....I asked for your advice. Thanks! I am hoping we can get away with just future world and a quick trip around WSC with DS in tow then DH & I can go back and explore the countries later alone

Okay...what the heck happened to my ability to choose a font color? The fonts and sizes are still there, but there is no dropdown for colors. Oh well, guess you all just need to read it in black. :flower3:

Okay, Day 4....fun exploring day!

I think my parents are leaving this day, but we will just have to see if we can make them stay another night so they can have a fun resort hopping day with us.

As soon as we get up we will somehow get to POFQ and eat at Sass. I was so torn at the beginning because I really wanted to stay there, but really want the ease of the monorail. So to make up for it, we are spending a little time exploring both POFQ and POR in the morning. Just before lunch we will hop a boat for the ride to DTD and have lunch at Earl of Sandwich. Kinda wanted TRex, but thought it would be too loud for DS. We will definitely go there to Build-a-Dino and look at everything, but not eat. I am very much looking forward to EOS. After a little shopping and exploring down there, maybe a quick trip up to check out SSR and OKW while we are in the area, depends on weather and time.

We will take a bus back to Poly to get ready for our 5:15 ADR @ Whispering Canyon. Very excited to see WL...that was at the top of our possibilities too, but I figured if I was gonna go deluxe, why still have to take a bus everywhere? I know they have a boat to MK, but I'm thinking early Feb it could be a bit chilly in the mornings and evenings. So we will just have an awesome supper and check it out. There's always next time...right?

Hoping DM & DF will stay the night so they can see WL too and have some yummy BBQ platters. But we will have to see how comfortable we are in one room.

So any tips on getting from Poly to POFQ then from DTD to WL. The plan right now is to take monorail to MK in morning and hop a bus to POFQ. Then either a bus straight to WL from DTD, or if we have time come back to Poly first and monorail to CR then boat from there to WL. Or if DM & DF are still there, we will have their car, so it will all be soooo much easier ;)

Anyone know if any buses go to/from TTC? We can walk there from Poly, but if no buses go to the resorts from there, we need to go to MK, right?

Day 5:

Today will be a relaxing day for us. A late (9am) ADR @ Kona so I can have those Macadamia Pineapple Pancakes I've heard so much about. Then over to MK to see anything we missed on Monday. Lunch will probably be at Caseys so we can get those corn dog nuggets. :woohoo: Hoping to catch the day parade this time and maybe a show or two.

On our way back to the Poly, we will stop at Contemporary for dinner at Contempo Cafe...looks like they have some good choices for dinner for a QS. I see pasta on the menu. :yay: Not much of that in the World I guess.

Day 6:

Another breakfast ADR for Kona, then bus to HS for the morning and early afternoon. I am thinking that HS will be our least favorite park since we won't be doing ToT or RnR. But I want Bradey to see the Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground as I remember that from my young trips.

After a QS lunch somewhere in HS....open to suggestions....we will catch the boat up to the Yatch/Beach area so DS can see what DH & I did on our own the other night. Hopefully we can score dinner at Beaches n Cream if its not too busy. Then depending on time we can either walk over to Epcot and check out a few more things, or just take a bus from Beach/Yatch to MK and back to Poly.

Everything looks awesome... I am just super jealous that you get to stay at the POLY.... :lovestruc

OK - I can answer these questions...

The busses to the resorts no longer have stops at the TTC... so in order to get from one resort to the others, you must transfer at one of the parks. In your case, MK would be the easiest.

So, you should Monorail from Poly to MK, then bus from MK to the resort. To get back, if you are coming from DTD or any of the other parks, you could take a direct bus back to the Poly. I also think you could allow a bit less time for your morning travel time, since the Monorail is super quick... normally to transfer from resort to resort, they say to allow 1.5 to 2 hours using Disney transportation.

Day 7:

We have a fairly late flight (leaves at 4) so we can play a little in the morning. As of now, I have an ADR for Chef Mickeys. But we are going to see how DS does with the characters. We might have to cancel if he doesn't like them, but I wanted to secure one anyway. Don't worry, I am not one of those people that will wait until the last minute. I will have a pretty good idea how he will handle it after the first day. I will then go to the Poly Concierge desk and cancel it with almost a week left for someone else to snag it up.

I plan to maybe get a ride in on those cute little mouse boats and maybe rent a surrey bike that morning. We will spend a little time just soaking up the Poly before heading home back to freezing cold Maine.

I am looking for a Chip n Dale hat and/or t-shirt to buy for DS as a Christmas present. Anyone know where I can find them? Everything is the Fab 5 or Princesses. Checking Etsy this afternoon....maybe :)
