I'm probably going to go against a lot of folks here, cause most seem cart crazy but, if you have the room do bring bicycles. Very simple, I'm a bicycle guy. Bicycles at the Fort are a slow, simple and fun way to check out all the area has to offer. Ride the loops, to the Marina, or to the Lodge. If you have kids and they are old enough, send them out for a ride while you relax at the site or on the T.E. Porch. Its also easier to get somewhere relatively quick rather than waiting on the bus.

We take bikes and our cart. Both have a place
OK, I'm a bicycle newbie. We're taking the bicycles down this weekend, and I'm nervous. I mean, I'm a BEGINNER, ya know?? I have questions.
Do you ride them on the roads, or on the sidewalks? Where do you put them when you get on the buses?
Will my butt look big on that teeny little seat??
Do I *have* to make right hand turns? I'm not good at them yet. Left's OK... right ain't.
Will I look silly in my helmet, knee pads and elbow protectors??
If you see me, please don't point and laugh.
We rode our bikes on the road because I don't think you are supposed to ride on the sidewalks. I did not make hand signals. I stopped at each stop sign and allowed cars to go ahead of me. I do not wear a helmet or pads (it's amazing I survived my childhood
). I do make my son where a helmet though. The girls are almost 12 and 14 now and would never ride their bikes if I made them where helmets. I would make an acception though if we were riding along side cars in heavy traffic. I don't worry about them at campgrounds though too much. They know how to watch for traffic.
We generally stay 2 weeks. 1 day in the park then 1 day of doing nothing 1 day in the park then 1 day of nothing and thats our trip but sometimes on those days of doing nothing we still end up at MK just walking around.I think the biggest thing we did wrong on our 1st trip was trying to do too much in too little time. I think you would need 1 day at the FW for every day in the parks. This gives you time to explore and enjoy, which we lacked!! There is so much to do.
Have fun!
