Hello,

I've never been to Disneyland, but visited disney world many times. I've browsed this board and tripadvisor but need some help picking a hotel for my January trip for the Tinkerbell Marathon. I enjoy staying at a nice hotel, favourites in DW being AK and POFQ. Unfortunately, I can't afford onsite prices at DL. By the looks of things all hotels within walking distance of DL are motel quality. Am I mistaken? I'd love a hotel priced in between the onsite DL hotels and the motels I'm seeing nearby. Are there any hotels in between these two levels that are close to the park by either walking or taking a shuttle?

Thanks for your help.

I've stayed at the Sheraton, and while it's not the nicest Sheraton I've ever stayed in, it's a small step above the places immediately across the street. They do have a shuttle, but if the starting line for the half marathon is still at the parking lot you may be better off walking. Plus, who knows if the shuttle will be running that early. If it were me, I'd probably stay at the Candy Cane Inn (never stayed there, but I know people who swear it's the cleanest hotel and very nice) and pay for an upgraded room or a suite. Or you could stay even farther away and just take a cab the morning of the marathon.

The Hilton Anaheim and the Anaheim Marriott are both nice.

We stayed at the Sheraton last time we went. Very clean, lovely lobby, free wi fi, etc. The shuttle ran frequently and got us to the park plenty early when we had early admission. Only drawbacks were the distance from DLR (running to the hotel if somebody forgot something was a giant drag), and the size of the Sheraton itself -- at the end of a bone-weary day, our room was miles from the lobby, down multiple hallways and up two elevators.

No free breakfast! I didn't care, but my sister found the lack of food just appalling.

My DD ran the Disneyland Half last year. We all stayed at the Doubletree. Since it was one of the race hotels through Gettravel, they had early shuttles from the hotel to DL. It's a little farther than the Hilton or Sheraton next to the convention center.

Candy Cane is usually the first hotel I recommend to people. It is a motel but probably THE cleanest motel (interior as well as exterior) I've ever stayed. The owners really take good care of it. I also like HoJo. If you want to venture farther out I like Aryes in Orange. I don't think they have their own shuttle but you can take ART. It was a lovely hotel that had pretty decent breakfast and because it isn't the vicinity of the DLR it isn't as pricy. The rooms are clean and the staff was nice. They also have hotels like the Marriott and Hilton at the Convention Center which is within walking distance. I've stayed at the Hilton which was nice.

HTH!

If you are willing to go a little further south on Harbor, you can find Embassy, Hilton Garden Inn, Residence Inn, Crown Plaza & Homewood Suites. I believe that all have shuttle service to the park.

I have stayed at both Embassy & Homewood. I always have a rental car so I don't think much about shuttle service.

Everyone gave good advice. I think the closest hotel, within walking distance, would be the Hilton. My cousins stayed there with their children, and had no problem walking to the parks everyday.

Right next to it is the Marriott, then the Sheraton at the Park. Doubletree Guest Suites is right behind the Sheraton at the Park. These will all give you that deluxe hotel feeling at less than the Disney prices.

My favorite so far was the convention center Marriott that we stayed at a couple years ago. Parking there is pricey due to the resort parking fee on top of the fact the city of anaheim has an extra fee. Parking was $24 a day + $4 a day for valet. We were up on the 10th floor, and was a great big room, king suite I think. We stayed at a couple of other Marriott's as well but I don't remember which ones they were but they were also nice.
