I am planning my first vacation to WDW with my family, husband and 6 & 9 yr old kids. We initially wanted to go in May, but school testing prevents it. I don't want to go during spring break time and deal with major crowds. Would you recommend March or beginning of June to plan a trip? Any tips would be appreciated...thanks!

We did the early June time frame back in 2003. It wasn't too bad temperaturewise. The crowds were ok. My kids were 11 and 8 at that time. We stayed at Carribbean Beach Resort. Too fun!

Hi and welcome to the DIS!

March is getting into Spring Break season, but June is getting into Summer season.

If you are going to go in either month, I suggest the first week of the month. Both months get very busy the deeper into the month you go.

June is very very hot! So if you don't mind the heat go in june!

I would go EARLY march. We have been twice near the end of february/early march time frame. The crowds were managable, as well as the temperatures.

HAVE FUN! My brother was 6 1/2 and I turned 10 on our first trip 15 years ago! We had a ton of fun from that first trip and have great memories! :flower:

We usually go last week Feb/first week March. The temps are very nice and the crowds manageable but not light. It is the peak season then, also, which affects prices. I'm not sure if first week of June is peak or not. June is VERY, VERY hot and humid. We used to go first week of June and I am now glad my DH isn't teaching anymore so we can go when we want. If you can stand the heat and humidity, June isn't bad -- the first of June. If not, March timeframe is a better option.

June is regular season while March is peak in price and potential spring breakers. For the money alone, I'd go in June.

I'd pick June - March can be iffy with the weather and most kids definitely want to swim when they go to Disney! Have fun planning your trip.

spring break starts president week in Feb and goes to the middle of april for most of the schools.

June can be HOT.

do you kids get a fall break? Sept, Oct, Nov are great times to visit WDW.

I have 4 school age kids and we are going mid Oct. Oct. and Nov. I think are the best. My kids had a Fri. and Mon. off for teacher meetings so we are going wed to wed. This way they are missing 2 days of school out of each week. They will have the beginning of the week to get work they will miss wed and thurs. and then come back the following thurs. to catch up on what they missed Tues and Wed. The weather is nice not extreme, toward the beginning of the year they are not heavily into any projects at school, the crowds are less and it is cheaper.

March can be very busy as it is Spring break across the country. We have been in March, but there are crowds and as others mentioned it is peak season, so the most expensive (other than Holidays) of the year. I have not been in June, so I can not advise here.

Went twice in early June crowds bearable but had lots of rain. :Pinkbounc

I pick early June. Most schools are still in session in the US, except the Floridians, they usually get out the last week of May. The weather is still manageable. The crowd wouldn't be as bad if you go in July and August.

I went in March once and vowed to never go during spring break again...the prices were so HIGH (we were used to value season and what a wake up) and the crowds were HIGH. I would vote for early June.

As for resort, what kind of theming interests you? What's fantastic about WDW is the variety of resort themes and locations (so you can choose which park you want to be closest to). It can be tough deciding, though--especiallly with so many wonderful options.

My favorite are the deluxes--I think it's worth it to spend more and have a luxurious hotel experience, but that's just my humble opinion, of course. My favorite deluxe resorts are the Grand Floridian, Animal Kingdom Lodge, the Boardwalk and the Beach club. :flower:

I would really recommend you look for a different time of the year. We have taken our kids 4 times over the last 12 years always the first of June {the day schools let out, usually June 2nd or 3rd. - 95+ degrees and humid with long long lines. Last time we went was 3 years ago in Mid January - we saw more in 4 days than we ever did in 7 days in June. Now we are empty nesters and wife and I going 1st week in May. I hear October and November are fantastic, warm with little to no crowds, that will be out next trip time. It really changes your prospective when you go during a time where you walk right on 90% of the rides and shows without a 30-45 minute wait. You'll never go during a crowded season again. :Pinkbounc

I say take the kids out of school and ENJOY! We always do that for vacation. We just get their work ahead of time, get some done before we leave and take some with us for any down time. It's worth it and your kids being so young, it won't be bad at all for them to miss school. We love going in Oct. and End of January and anytime in February. Crowds are not bad at all and weather is excellent.

I just took my 7 and 10 year old during the first week of June 2005. We got to see the end of the Epcot Flower festival, crowd levels were moderate, and the weather was very mild. I'd suggest this over March. I also thought it was easier to pull them from school near the end of the school year.
