First Timer @ Epcot Flower and Garden

The last time I was at WDW during F&G time, it was the last Sunday and I didn't know about the Butterfly House. I'll be there again this May and was wondering what the Butterfly House is like.

Are there a lot of them? Do they fly around you or are they behind protective screens? i.e. is there a possibility they will land on you? (not that I am scared of them, I think they're beautiful and wouldn't love to see them up close.)

No cages/screens/anything like that. It's an enclosed garden with butterflies flying about freely. Last year one landed on my friend's son's finger and stayed there for a good 5+ minutes! We got some great pictures. I think they tell you not to try and pick them up or manipulate them, which makes sense. I had some success luring one onto a leaf. But you will undoubtedly have some good opportunities for up-close encounters :goodvibes

Thanks for the info!

I'll be at WDW during the very last few days of the festival, and I'm wondering if all the flowers will still be fresh at that time or will they have started wilting? Also, will the food booths have run out of anything so late in the festival? Thanks.

It's from 9 a.m. to 12 noon so the tour participants would be able to walk around without a lot of people and probably get great pictures since WS doesn't open until 11:00 a.m.

I was under the impression you could still walk around WS before 11 even though shops, restaurants (unless you have a reservation), attractions, etc. aren't open yet. Is that not true or just not during the F&G festival? I was thinking that would be a good time to take some pictures before it gets too crowded. This is our first time at the festival and I can't wait!

This is a really good blog about the new food kiosks available this year at the Flower and Garden festival with pictures and prices.

Thanks so much for posting this! I will be there Monday, and I will have a tough time deciding what to try. So much of it looks delicious! Unfortunately, I will not be able to imbibe in the "adult beverages", as my trip is for work, but the food looks amazing. I may just have to eat my way around...

the food kiosks are definitely interesting and probably a good addition to the festival. Also typically future world opens before world showcase when it is not the festival and I don't believe they let people walk around. Some others may know the answer to that better than i.

The only things open before 11:00 AM in WS are Akershus, the very "front" part of The Puffin's Roost,World Traveler and Boulangerie Patisserie.:)

There are ropes between Norway and China and between France and Morocco until 11:00.:)

Guests can walk around the "outside" of Norway,Mexico,Canada,United Kingdom and France.:)

It's a great time for picture taking.:)

I actually haven't seen him around. In the video I saw it was Captain Hook. There is a Hook topiary in the UK but he doesn't seem to be live. So I think the live topiary was just for the promotional video :(

I have Disney World on my pinterest and they had pinned the video of the live Captain Hook topiary with the caption "The 2013 Epcot Flower and Garden Festival team shows off a not so average shrub. The Captain Hook "living topiary" will be making a special one-time appearance at Epcot on Friday, April 5th, 2013."

So it looks like this will be a one-day only event. Oh how I wish I wasn't all the way in PA!

Thanks. :) I'm super excited for this! AND I forgot that I could get a yummy napoleon in the morning. Thanks especially for that reminder!

I'm going to the festival mostly because I want to see David Bromstad, who will be there May 17-19 at noon and 3pm each day. Does anyone know whether you have to line up early for these presentations?

I can't wait to fill in the rest of my visit with the food kiosks :-)

From what I understand you can just show up. All of the presentations are free, unlike the ones at F&W. You'll want to get there early to guarantee a seat, though.
