Warning - long post ahead!
I spent my entire childhood just wishing for a trip to Disney!
While all of my friends went, we never could. Either we didn't have the money, or something else came up. Also, neither of my parents had ever been there, so they weren't all that interested - and had NO idea what we were all missing! We made a feeble attempt at planning for my high school graduation, but that didn't pan out either. Well, then it came time for my college graduation. **Keep in mind that I am the first in my entire family to GO, nevermind graduate, so I think I could've had the moon if I asked. Well, you know what I wanted! I said, 'That's it - I'm going to meet the Mouse!!' (Still remember the dates - 6/1/95 to 6/8/95!)
I read every book available at the time, but when we got there, we were still so completely overwhelmed! We stayed at CBR & after we checked in, we went immediately to the bus stop & couldn't decide on which park to visit first (was I crazy?? It HAS to be MK now!!) So, we just chose to hop on the first bus we saw - Epcot. My first ride? Spaceship Earth. But, that's not the best...
By our third day or so, we were exhausted, it had POURED every day, we were still a little in awe of everything & most importantly, I still hadn't met the big cheese - I was BUMMED. We were wandering around the Village Marketplace & stumbled upon Chef Mickey's. I was SO clueless - I didn't even know what a character meal was! So, imagine my shock when I saw Mickey himself walking around in his chef's hat! I just froze mid-sentence & literally couldn't talk. When the waitress came by, I was so worried that Mickey would miss us that my parents explained the situation to her & asked her to come back. She just smiled & said she certainly understood & would wait until Mickey came by. When he did, I just posed, smiled and - well, hey, I waited 23 YEARS for this moment, so of course......I CRIED! What a LOON I must have looked like!! The pictures are great, though - my parents just snapped away & there are so many of me just staring up at this Mouse, like he's Bruce Springsteen or something!
Thank goodness I had the foresight to find a man who's as Disney-obsessed as I am. We've been back together nearly 10 times, but I always have to break it to him - NOTHING will EVER top that first trip. (But, I still shed a little tear every time I run into Mickey!
