I am going to Disney on Wednesday with my family. I can't help being very nervous about flying. Does anyone else feel this way? Sometimes I am very rational, however, once in a while I am struck with panic attacks. I have considered canceling our trip. Is anyone else going through this? Thanks.

I'm with you...I waffle daily on whether we should go on our 9/29 trip. Today, we're going...tomorrow?? I don't fear the flying although I will be nervous, but my uneasiness centers around two things. 1) We are leaving my 2year old DS at home with my parents, whom he adores. He is not a good traveller and with all the extra delays etc., he/we would be miserable. However, during this time of crisis, I feel like my family should all be together..but taking him just due to that is not the right decision either. 2) If retaliation begins when we are down in WDW, I think we may not be able to get back to Canada as easy as hoped. I think that the less TV I watch, the more my nerve and resolve comes back, but I just can't help feeling a little helpless right now. I'm turning our decision over to a higher power and am awaiting the answer!! Let us know how things go with you! Take Care, Jo

Disnee Dad says.............................................I would normally say go on your trip and I am saying that to kward. Go and enjoy small lines and a staff that should be very eager to please. I do not like to fly, but being a west coaster I have no choice. Lucky for me it only kills me for the first 5 minutes taking off and the last fifteen minutes or so of descent, the middle is fine. Air flight is safer than ever. When they retaliate it will have to be with something new, like a truck bomb, or blowing up bridges. This is an enemy I don't beleive we can beat. We can only make them weaker and weaker so as they retalaite it becomes smaller and smaller. If you have parents or grandparents that know about WW II talk to them about it. You know there is an enemy and know something bad is going to happen, but you go on with your lives because you must. If anything appreciate life to it's fullest and enjoy what you can when you can. That said, for the first time I am saying I am not sure if someone should go on the trip. And that is Jo-Anne. I am certainly not saying cancel, but your case is not fear or emotions as it is logistics. I think maybe the key lay in the statement: I think we may not be able to get back to Canada as easy as hoped. Not sure, but I guess it is two long days drive to get back, so you rent a car for $100 and go home. Hassle yes, but in the scheme of things, real hassles are I have no food, I have no place to live, I am dying of cancer,I can't walk. Now I am saying you should go! And may I say that not enough Americans say this, but Canada Rocks. Grew up in Seattle so I visited BC, Victoria etc a few times and everyone was considerate and kind and well mannered on each trip! Almost like WDW without the rides. Can't get that in America.

Thanks for your voice of reason Disnee Dad. :)

Don't cancel your trip! The flight will be fine! We in the USA have a tendency of over-reacting to immediate need so it will likely be safer than ever to fly at this time than any other time. When I was younger I used to work for People Express Airlines (remember them?). My regular routes were Brussels, Belgium; London; Papeete, Tahiti; Honolulu; San Fran; LAX; and Denver. It was a time of unprecedented terrorism in the sky but the security escalated to meet the demand. So too will this occur today. And in short order we will return to having Sky Marshalls (remember them?). So don't go changing your whole vacation just to accommodate your phobia. Face your fears by realizing that any further terrorism will likely be thwarted and carry-on with your life. How do you think the British managed to survive World War II and the V-2 bombs? They decided that they would live a life as if they did not exist. This caused a change in their thinking which has been credited for their resiliency and quick recovery. The same principle applies today. We should all turn to them as our model as London was devestated by the bombings in WWII. We too shall overcome this tragedy. Be strong and enjoy!!
